I don't know about that, but Viscusi's bio talks about work he's done suggesting that people overestimate the risks associated with smoking, and would smoke more if they knew more.
eta that the bio contains a description of a book that address both what str8 says above and what I talk about. If I were an insomniac I might be interested in picking it up.
