Dunno. Drawing on my useless knowledge of sophomoric movies, however, I can state that the term goes back at least 20 years... As quoted by that legendary actor and "Dance Fever" replacement (for Denny Terio) Adrian Zmed in Bachelor Party (that Hanks guy was in it, too):
