*His mother is also a die-hard, old-fashiond-method cook (and a good one at that!). We were staying at my in-laws vacation apartment, and the babysitter/housekeeper was looking for the coffee maker -- and when I showed her the "old sock" coffee drainer apparatus (that was all the rage 75 years ago...), she nearly fell over. She tried to hide her shock by saying, "Oh, that's the really ancient method" (bad translation -- it sounded less condescending in her native language).
O.K., O.K., we get it, Ms. My-Spouse-Grew-Up-In-A-Foreign-Country. Ms. I-Am-Connected-By-Marriage-To-A-Foreign-And-Exotic-Culture. Ms.-I-Have-Many-Tales-Of-My-Spouse's-Distant-Upbringing-And-Family. We are all very impressed.
