I was a science major but I also took non-science courses and learned to write. I got an A in every non-science course I took.
I do kick ass on multiple choice tests, though, and I know what you are saying about the point spread. In general, I did get higher grades on multiple choice tests, but I still got A's in my non-science classes. They were easy.
