That used to be the rule in major-league baseball too.
I did not realize until the other day that not every baseball fan realizes that if you hit into a double play (I just can't type DP anymore -- thank God those aren't my initials), even if a runner scores, you don't get an RBI. (Someone was debating this point with me while we were watching a baseball game recently. Happily (for me), a few plays later, that very thing happened, and the announcer said, "Well, no RBI for [whomever], but the run scores..." as if on cue. HA!)
