Top Baby Names

[Edited to add:] Here's a link to the SSA's database of baby names. Unfortunately it goes back only 12 years (which I think is when people had to get an SSN for a child when born), but one can get the most popular names for each year, as well as look at the popularlity of a given name over the entire period.
its pretty amazing how many babies born last year are going to have to go through life with misspelled names. i wonder what percentage of them were cases where the parents were trying to be different and what percentage were that the parents actually thought that was how the name was spelled. for example 344 girls born last year were named "jackeline."

also 333 parents who probably should not have been allowed to reproduce named their daughters "lizette" last year. damn, they are going to get teased mercilessly in junior high school with a name like that.
