I can't believe anyone would rather have people think a 12-14 year old hung himself while jerking off to internet porn than that he committed suicide -- if for no other reason than because other kids might try it to see what the appeal is and accidentally kill themselves.

People deal with guilt and loss in fucked up ways. This may be outable, but a close friend was telling me a story about a friend of the family who had killed himself. He was about 19, had struggled with serious depression his entire life, had recently graduated from high school, been told by his family he was one his own (even though they knew he was off medication and out of regular medical care) and been cut off from his family when they moved across the country. At his funeral, his mother gave a speech about how horrible depression is and how it wasn't the family's fault. Everybody apparently thought that was a little self-serving, and apparently a lot of people did think it was the family's fault.
So, all I'm saying is, when bad shit happens, like kids committing suicide, I don't fault the parents for trying to convince themselves however they can that they weren't bad parents. Even when they were.
