Speaking of that, 90% of diabetes is type II diabetes, an almost entirely preventable because it is caused by obesity (in combo with a genetic propensity). Type I diabetes (not caused by obesity) used to be called juvenile onset, but now that so many fat kids are getting type II diabetes, they had to scrap the juvenile/adult distinction and use type 1/2 instead.

This of course, ties well into my theme of the week that "Americans are gluttons."

One of the most astounding statistic about type II diabetes and obesity is that in the US, the poor are more likely to be obese and have type II diabetes! Only in America are the poor dying of diseases of obesity!!
