Dear Pretty Little Flower,

I read on some other board that 26 of 29 Dorsey summer associates got offers. I will let you know what I hear about other firms.

I have also received e-mails recently discussing 1) the defection of some or all of the IP group at Dorsey, and 2) continuing attrition problems at Zelle. I will let you know if I hear anything further.

Keep up the good work. You are my hero.

Love,

Pretty Little Flower

I heard about this from a friend who knows one of their former associates. Apparently, associate turnover is really high (50-60% in the last 2-3 years?) and it has management scratching their heads because they pay pretty well. The former associate's take, apparently, was that no amount of money is worth putting up with some of the partners who work there. Sounds like every other law firm in the country.

Dear PLFer:

I read that those numbers were more bogus than your claims to prettiness. But after that some sharp torts student said questioning Dorsey accounting was -- gasp -- actionable defamation. And with a case cite and everything. After that things got all confused with boot licking and being mostly high and regular (I guess that's what happens when you include lots of fiber in your munchies).

Love and Kisses,

Fugee

Dorsey again

A brief post-retirement note that, from what I have heard, Dorsey has told a number of associates that they are no longer on the partnership track. Could be just a rumor, but you know what they say: Where there's smoke, there's PLF.

Hmmm. I hope some Dorseyites are reading and can confirm or disprove. Were these people who'd previously been assured that all was in order or an early nudge to people to start looking? Did the message come with a deadline?

Well, I have heard nothing further about this. This may be consistent with the fact that I have heard from various Dorsey associates over the last couple of years that "the writing is on the wall" about partnership chances and other ominous sounding things. It simply may not be newsworthy that associates are being taken off the partnership track these days. On the other hand, Dorsey still seems to be hiring at normal levels at the entry level, and I thought I heard that they made most of their summer associates permanent offers after this last summer.

Why do you even try, Flower? MN GAs are notoriously tight-lipped. I think this board is eventually going to go the way of the dodo.

"The Way Of The Dodo"?

Sounds like some weird martial arts cult.

Dorsey appears to be reinventing itself. The Vikings seemed like they might be good, and now they don't. Faegre just named a bunch of new partners. They said it would snow a lot, and then it didn't. You knew all this, of course. I'll admit I don't have much to add here. I'm just posting to help keep that Dodo thing from happening. And to see how these smiley things work.

.mn

Well, isn't this cute:

http://www.house.mn/

http://www.senate.mn/

The Minnesota legislature is using the .mn top-level domain name, which is associated with Mongolia, in a way not unlike how .tv is used.

The Mongolians have sold out: For just $55/year, get your own .mn domain here!

Microsoft Trial

Anybody head over to court and take in the opening arguments in the Microsoft trial? I have a feeling MS is going to take a pretty decent hit on this one.

My opinion on why it didn't settle: the plaintiff firms hit big in california and can afford to roll the dice in MN. If they win, it's another half billion in the bank, if they lose, they're out a few hunderd K in attorneys fees. I'd take that gamble, too.

Actually these two make the Bush twins look tame... Chicago's Finest really love it when a perp kicks out the window of one of their squad cars.

Sounds like they are backing off on the police brutality charges...
