There's no doubt that "he" said that, but I'm trying to confirm who "he" is -- it's one of the Coors clan (no pun intended), but not the one running for Senate.

I do remember the Coors boycott after that. I think that speaker's dead.

Pete's dad, Joe, is dead. He's the really conservative one.

I checked. It was Bill Coors. No idea if he's dead.

The speech was in 1984. The boycott started before that, and was more closely related to Coors' anti-unionism, although different people had different reasons (my personal reason for observing the boycott is that the beer tastes like piss).

There has been a continuous boycott of the stuff for years and years, for tons of different reasons. You're right in that it was first started by the union.

Used to be, when it was just out west, we could always take a free ski vacation if we were willing to beef up the car shocks and bring back 35 or so cases of Coors to re-sell. Word would get out that we were back with Coors, and it would be gone in hours, for double the price.

Good times.

What was the appeal of Coors back then?

FYI - that link I posted is a book review about some of the business decisions made by Coors that may have contributed to the decline in sales.

Bilmore's union-busting friends in the Midwest were hard-up for a beer they could drink without choking on.

Coors was regional, and not available in the Mid-West. I think the appeal was mainly something a person might think sounded good because it was not available.

I used to take road trips to bilmore's area for Leinie's.

Much better than Coors, if you ask me. Had I been a proto-Republican, I would have re-sold at a profit, rather than just giving it to my friends.

2 GI's Killed in Iraq Blast in WMD Search

http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlates...022706,00.html
  • BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - An explosion leveled part of a building as U.S. troops searched it for suspected ``chemical munitions'' on Monday, an American general said. Two soldiers were killed and five wounded, and a cheering mob of Iraqis looted their wrecked Humvees, taking away weapons, a helmet and a bandolier.

Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt did not say what sort of chemical munitions were believed to be produced at the site. After the blast, there was no sign in the area of precautions against chemicals.

``Chemical munitions could mean any number of things,'' including smoke grenades, he said.

Some Baghdad residents said the building that exploded Monday was a perfume factory, while others said it had once been a scrap metal workshop that repaired weapons and recycled old ammunition.

Asked about reports that the raid team included members of the Iraq Survey Group - the U.S. team searching for weapons of mass destruction in the country - Kimmitt said only: ``The inspection was by a number of coalition forces.''

He said the owner of the site was ``suspected of supplying chemical agents'' to Iraqi insurgents, but did not elaborate.

The Baghdad explosion occurred as U.S. troops broke into the building in the northern Waziriya district. The front half of the one-story building was leveled, setting ablaze four Humvees parked outside.

Two soldiers were killed and five were wounded, Kimmitt said. He did not comment on the cause of the blast.

A U.S. soldier was seen being taken away on a stretcher, her chest and face severely burned. Witnesses reported other U.S. casualties taken away in ambulances. Several Iraqis were pulled out of the wreckage, including a woman who wept as she was carried over a man's shoulder.

Afterward, dozens of cheering teenagers started to smash the abandoned Humvees. One child climbed on a hood and beat it with a stick. Iraqis stripped the vehicles of equipment, one carrying a heavy machine gun, another waving a U.S. helmet. One man sported military headphones.

Exactly. Absence makes the fond grow harder. Or something like that.

To the extent we can know anything about anon posters, I would firmly vote female. Just because.

Shows how much you know about women. Go frequent some women's message boards and see all the little dollz (that is what they call them) that they have in their signature blocks or as avatars. The website where I get them from is run by a woman http://cherryland.home.insightbb.com/sitemap2.htm. There are a whole bunch of these dollz sites and they aren't run by men.

They do have some for men, called "guyz," but I have only seen those used when the women want to use one to represent their hubby or their b/f. Here is a cute one for you:
