Coffee
Has anyone had any great success giving up coffee if you are really into coffee? I kicked the pasta/rice/starch thing and that was one of the hardest ever to kick.
I've been reading coffee increases your cortisol levels and insulin and would like to reduce both.
Green Tea supposedly cuts cortisol by 30%.
any hints would be great. cold turkey seems extreme and I'm still not sleeping through the night yet.

I don't on the whole have problems when I don't drink coffee, but I would try switching to the decaf version of whatever coffee item you normally drink (so you don't feel psychologically deprived) and drinking lots of green tea. If you have espresso drinks, last I saw a shot of espresso had considerably less caffeine than a cup of coffee (like maybe 1/3 as much?) which surprised me. And green tea does have caffeine.
Even when I don't need the caffeine, I miss having my warm, milky, coffee-flavored security blanket in a cup if I try to skip it completely.

Huh. Thanks, Fringe. I do drink espresso in the am, with skim milk so maybe switching to half/caf on that.....
I am starting on green tea today....
I agree regarding the security blanket aspect there is just something about your morning cuppa.
Maybe I'll just cut my afternoon cup?

if you give her advice, you should really make sure it is simple, and correct.
she seems to think there is sometihng in coffee that gives her bad something or other levels. do you know if decaf doesn't also give one bad something or other levels, but if it does, she shouldn't switch to it.
also, the cream/milk in a few coffees a day is enought to add a pound all by itself, so maybe she should move away from it.
How much longer does she have to lose weight, had Thurgreed set his next evaluation date?

We need to get our calcium somewhere, and I'm sure (POSITIVE) she has non-fat whatever dairy product is in there.
And why bother giving someone totally illogical and arbitrary correct information? Why, Hankmore, why?
ETA and having watched all available episodes of this season of 30 Rock online this weekend, I now get Coltrane's sig line and like it. And Tina Fey appears to be walking the picket line.

I have skim, and fringey's advice was how to wean me off of coffee, so decaf is a good way to start.
Right Hank?

Hank, you should glean from this that attempts to drive wedges between me and my acolytes are doomed to failure. DOOMED.

maybe you can't read between the lines, but dtb all but admitted that she could not possibly have ran a marathon without my advice. I'm the king of advice. i could easily get someone off coffee if i so desired.

Are you trying to recruit me away from Fringey?
Unbelievable!

Awesome, except I am wondering how it came to be that most of your conversations these days are with libidinous Spanish-speaking construction workers and middle-aged truck-stop waitresses.

I had never run more than 12 miles (though I did that a lot), and was pretty scared about not finishing. It wasn't a blistering speed time or anything, but I finished.
Other than childbirth, that was the hardest physical thing I've ever done. My legs hurt today like never before. I don't know how all you people do those endurance races. Damn.

Congratulations. This evening, Hank will consume a side of beef in your honor.

It was a good song parody.
(For those who don't know what we're talking about, it's from a funny gofugyourself entry regarding Christie Brinkley's pants.)
