I like the car chase in The Bourne Supremacy. Pretty cool. (I haven't seen either of the movies you listed, so I can't compare them.)

I'd add The Breakfast Club and Scarface to the list.

Mindy Smith

Last night I went to see Mindy Smith at the 9:30 club. There was no one there, but it was an awesome show. Make sure to see her when she comes to your town. Aside from the fact that I think she was stoned out of her gourd, she's got an amazing voice and her mandolin player is quite good. For those of you who aren't familiar with her, she's got going that chick playing guitar with folky voice schtick, but with a much better voice than Cheryl "pop princess" Crowe. (or however you spell her name). Her voice was better live than recorded which says a lot for a musician. Even mr. lunchboxcollector who doesn't like going to shows/concerts unless it's U2, was really impressed with the set. And her cover of Dolly Parton's Joleen is just chillingly beautiful...like that Allison Kraus song from Cold Moutain.

Oh, God, yes. We're talking about a totally outrageous paradigm.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

I'd add the Southpark movie, and comment that, while I don't actually own Office Space, and I recognize that any decent DVD collection includes it, I just can't be bothered since it is on cable so often.

Now, my 5 "horror must haves if you don't want to be jeered out of the guild" list:

The Haunting (early '60s version - the remake sucked in many ways but also took all the lesbianism out, and CZJ it hot enough to make me want to see lesbianism)
Night of the Living Dead
Evil Dead II
Psycho
The Shining

hon mention to Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Bride of Frankenstein.

Other things I have that I watch over and over again:

Baseketball
Evil Dead (I)

Blue Crush -- an inspiring tale of how a hardworking surfer girl is able to overcome her fears and how love crosses all geographical, economic, and class boundaries. Plus, lots of cute chicks in bikinis. Best watched at bongthirty.

Blazing Saddles -- Mel Brooks classic and a breathtaking array of ethnic/sexual orientation jokes that would never make it to the screen today. Best watched at bongthirty.

Dazed and Confused -- maybe it's not as good as Slacker, but it cracks me up every time. Best watched at bongthirty.

Usual Suspects -- I still haven't figured out who Kaiser Soze is. Probably because it's always watched at bongthirty.

24 Hour Party People -- Fun movie that sort of tracks my interests and taste in pop music. Makes me nostalgic for those carefree days of complete irresponsibility. Season to taste.

I wouldn't consider these the "best" movies, but these seem to be the standbys when I can't decide what I want to watch and I'm not in the mood for porn.

Brazil, Diner, Godfather Saga (the chronologic, the others are on TV enough) Pulp Fiction, Virginia Wolff, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Mo Better Blues, Slacker, Happiness, Evil Dead (original)

What is Happiness (the movie, not philosophically)?

It is a great date movie about the problems in keeping a relationship moving forward in modern times. A feel good flick!

Other great car chase scenes, for the fan include:

The French Connection and The Italian Job (the original version, with Michael Caine).

Blue Crush rocks. However, I think my love for it may be explained by my small crush on Michelle Rodriguez, whom I am transfixed by when she's onscreen (see, e.g., me watching Girlfight and unfortunately the fast and the furious). Lord knows why. I bet she's an uber-bitch in real life.

IMHO Ronin has some of the best car chase scenes ever filmed. The Itllian Job (both the old version and the newer one) also have great car chases.

Directed by Todd Solonz. Great flick, but it will turn your stomach.

I like the car chase scene in The Way of the Gun. Has to be the slowest chase scene in movie history. I could do without the rest of the movie, though.

What does that mean when people are listing Pulp Fiction as a must-have? (For context: When I got to the scene where the masochist climbs out of a trunk, I turned the movie off and never went back. )

I think it means that we're as sick and twisted as Quinten Tarrantino thought we were. And we like the dialogue.
