I'm perfectly willing to put half the blame on Pedro for last year, but last night Terry did what he does worst - managing pitchers. I was yelling to yank Timlin last night before he gave up the last couple - you could see what was going on. And your points on Schilling are exactly right. In a game where the offense scores 8 and the manager just sits there and doesn't do anything until after the disasters happen, though, I put Francona's blame first.

Okay. I agree that Francona was a big part of why you guys lost last night. But after the game Schilling said he would not pitch again in the series if he felt the way he did today. He knew he wasn't effective probably from pitch 1. He knew what he was throwing. If you're going to hurt your team or are in the process of hurting your team, signal to your manager (whether he's in a coma or not) and ask to be removed from the game. All you have to do is limp a little bit and out you come and no one questions your heart.
Duque was straight up with Torre at the end of the season. He said, "My arm feels dead," and he said it because he doesn't want to hurt the team. He gave Torre the definitive answer he needed to make the absolute right decision.
