Based on this morning's posts, I'm not sure there's much of a difference. It's Sylvia Plath.

I do agree that Blazing Saddles tops the list.
I concur with the dissent. The Spanish Inquisition dance number alone should put it on the list.

We decided we have way too much fun going to games and football is only twice a month, so we're gonna get cheap tickets to the Aeros. Are there any minor league teams nearby to help you through the strike?

(Confession: I've never been to a hockey game before. I'd blame the region of the country that I grew up in, but Texas has more professional hockey teams than any other state in the country and the Aeros have been here for years.)

This shocks and amazes me. hmmm.

And I have to say, I wasn't even thinking about minor hockey. I will check that out.

2. I was working out today and trying to do pullups while turning blue in the face. I guess I started humming subconsciously to distract myself from the pain, but I realized I was humming to Love is a Battlefield. What a waste of much needed energy.
We are strong. No one can tell us we're wrong.

I have heard the Aeros games are fun and popular with the local ladies. Lots of lonely expats from Calgary, desperate for a hockey fix and a little lovin'.

That doesn't seem to do me much good, though.

Oh, wait. I'm a lesbian now. Nevermind.

Nope.

http://www.altreel.com/music-videos/...tlefield.shtml

Artist: Pat Benatar
Title: Love is a Battlefield
Year: 1983

Synopsis: A whacked-out floozy leaves home, becomes a whore, seeks refuge in a cheap bar and leads a weird dance ritual whose torn-clothed, wild-haired participants flail around like victims of Tourettes Syndrome on crack. Some real Guido-type dude in a three-piece suit tries to hit on her but she kicks some ass and then strolls off into the sunset.

Analysis: Pat Benatar (born Pat Andrzejewski in Brooklyn, New York) was a true creature of MTV. In fact, few people remember that her video, "You Better Run," was the second clip aired by MTV during the network's debut on August 1, 1981. If you don't believe Benatar wielded some influence in the early 1980s, just check out the outfits worn by the female cast in Valley Girl [1983]. Benatar's powerful voice and trendsetting sense of style masked some painfully simplistic lyrics. By the way, "Love is a Battlefield" was nominated for Best Female Video of 1984 but lost out to Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."

Sample Lyrics: "You're beggin' me to go, you're makin' me stay/Why do you hurt me so bad/It would help me to know/Do I stand in your way, or am I the best thing you've had/Believe me, believe me, I can't tell you why/But I'm trapped by your love and I'm chained to your side . . ."

Coda: "Love is a Battlefield" placeed #73 on VH1's 100 Greatest Video List in 2001. Pat herself finished #66 on VH1's 100 Sexiest Artists List in 2002.

I've actually been to an Aeros game and I did enjoy it, but I think the CHL teams are the way to go (Austin Icebats - how cool is that?). Much like the Texas League AA baseball teams, there's a certain absurd quality to the games. There was a piece on NPR yesterday about Tampa's Brad Lukowich, who lives in Dallas, who is going to play for the Ft. Worth CHL team (the Brahmas? the Brahmins? something like that - probably the bulls and not the priests).

Baz Luhrmann borrowed liberally from this video for some of the dance numbers in Moulin Rouge.

Interesting, since Benatar borrowed liberally from Michael Jackson's work (like, Thriller) for her video.

But I guess they're even since he borrowed heavily from her facial structure for his look.

Yes! I had the Thriller-like dance going in my head this morning too. But I much prefer the genuine article.
