This is an inevitable fallout of being a reoccuring columnist. I've only read a few things so the style seems fresh to me, but other columnists I read regularly often seem forced. It's Monday and your column is due, and you've got no ideas- you revert to formula and its often forced. A novelist can wait, a columnist has deadlines.

There's a columnist here who I think is a formulistic hack but every few years he publishes some piece and the rest of the Country sucks it up (Mitch Albom). He's an idiot. I played ball in a game he was in once and he tried to come on the court wearing his watch! This is supposed to be a sportswriter.

As to race baiting- raising racial issues isn't the equivalent. There is racism in the NBA, maybe just for the purpose of providing the product the owners THINK the public wants, but still. there are white guys holding spots and getting minutes they don't deserve, and the only justification is maybe the owners think they'll lose support w/o.
