You know, you've just made me realize why it might be that my son (almost 6!) has taken a sudden interest in going commando.

I was thinking it was because I hadn't bought him new underwear in a while, and the kind he has was getting too small -- but that makes me feel like a neglectful mother, so I will delude myself into thinking that it is the summer weather.

(Don't worry -- I recently bought him appropriately sized undies.)

Darling, it's much easier to have all my roof deck stabbing fantasies about you when you're not talking about your son's junk. Also, yes, please buy him underwear that fits him. Too much pressure down there is no fun, unless, well, it's a different kind of pressure.

Whiff.

Remember when we used to say that?

Anyhoo, with the OLNTV web site temporarily down, thus preventing me from confirming what I assume is a US Postal win (although early results showing that the team, and thus Armstrong, may not gain as much time on Euskatel as some anticipated), I will ask a question to the bicycling junkies about yesterday's stage. Some may recall last year when Armstrong crashed, and there was all the hoo ha about whether Ullrich slowed and how Hamilton had to go to tell the lead pack to slow down and how it is a gentlemen's sport where you do not take advantage of a fallen rider.

Well, yesterday, there was a crash and some of the possible GC favorites, most notably Iban Mayo, got stuck in the second half of the peloton (the half that was slowed by the crash). Instead of waiting, the teams in the first half of the peloton brought the hammer down and rocketed down the road, putting several minutes between them and the second pack, possibly killing Mayo's chances this tour. Why, Armstrong?

As far as the poll, I like Wolverine. On the other side, my favorite bad guy is Mystique.
Mystique -- That wouldn't have anything to do with the painted-on costume, would it? I hear ya, though.

On another note which you may find interesting, Leagl -- Due to thunderstorms here on the 3rd the local fireworks display was postponed, so instead we gathered the family around the TV to watch the display from the Taste of Chicago. During the 20+ minute display, the coverage showed the fireworks from about 10 different camera angles. They also showed shots of the crowd watching them (which was pretty annoying but it's beside the point).

At one point, they cut to a tight shot of a couple standing under a streetlight making out and generally doing some seriously heavy petting. After a few seconds as the camera angle changed a bit the viewer could see that the couple turned out to be two very attractive women. They must have stayed with it for 15 or 20 seconds before moving on. Both Mrs. Hand and I commented on it, surprised that even in a cosmopolitan city like this they stuck with the shot as long as they did.

FWIW, I'm picturing the camera operator being some dumpy Michael Moore looking guy in jean shorts standing there with his jaw around his ankles talking softly to himself like some wanna be amateur porn director... "Oooh yeah, that's nice...."

I wondered the same thing, which is little help in answering your question. Perhaps he will chalk it up to the inevitable charge of the peleton, which is a sorry excuse as Lance should be able to control it better than not at all.

Stuff about paying way too much attention to two women kissing.

I admit it. I love the blue paint. How could you not? I mean daaamn.

However, the character is neat too.

The guy doesn't have to look like Michael Moore. I bet you his jaw was around his ankles though, and he was probably drooling.

I wonder if the women know they ended up on TV.

I'd be pretty pissed off if I was kissing the gf and someone focused on us for that long. Of course, we don't actually make out in public.

US Postal led the charge yesterday, and even appeared to be frustrated when other teams did not do their part to speed the first part of the peloton ahead, knowing that the riders of the second part of the peloton would lose more and more time. The comentators made it seems as if it was just good strategy, which I suppose it is, but that does not answer my question.

US Postal had a strong day. 1'07" over second place Phonak (Hamilton). 1'19" over T-Mobile (Ullrich). 2'35" over Euskatel (Mayo). Mayo is hurting. He may essentially be out of it before they even get to the mountains.

I'm like Mr. Sporty McSporto Sports Guy these days. I hear the chicks dig that. Maybe I'll get onto Zesty's invite list if I keep it up.

Although I have nothing to back this up, it seems to me that the examples are distinguishable.

In the Lance example, he got snagged by a bystander, an external element. Plus, he was in position, riding in the lead group, on a mountain stage where it was almost mano-a-mano.

In the Mayo example, didn't he crash out himself first of all (I admit to not watching all of the stage), and was working himself back into position? It was pretty well publicized that the cobblestones were a risk and that the only way to be safe was to be at the front. It was also a flat stage where Mayo should have had his entire team to help him.

I don't know where the line is, but it wouldn't be sporting if you never waited in any situtation, and it wouldn't be sport if you waited in every situation.
