PLF was talking about Seamus "Ironweed" Murphy, of course. The inventor of what is known as "Murphy's Law" (usually paraphrased as "anything that can go wrong will").

I am "using" too many "quote marks" these days.
Actually, PLF being ironic, was really talking about the lesser-known "Guinness' Law" - which, as we know, means simply, "Whenever something goes wrong....blame the English"

If someone paid your tab, why would the hosts be short? I would let it drop. If you kick money back to the hosts you put them in an awkward position of feeling like they have to decline the money.

Seeing Velvet Revolver tomorrow night... I also was pleasantly surprised.
Heard some of their stuff on Q101 here (the station that inflicts Mancow on the world) without knowing who it was...

Thought to myself, this sounds like STP, but that guitar reminds me of Slash. Who knew, I was right on both counts.

There's a band that's a blow up (or a mountain of blow) waiting to happen...

The Scots and French have similar laws.

Apropos of the UK, I love how the Scots and French get along based solely on their mutual hatred of the English.

Waiting to happen? I do note that RCA has required Scott to have a special handler on tour with him to keep him away from bad stuff. I just hope he fires the guy before recording a new album. Cleaned up rock stars write some real crap in my view.

The hosts had to generate $5000 worth of drink sales. I think they were maybe $600-800 short. I don't want the hosts, if they were the people who picked up my tab, to have to pay my drink bill in addition to whatever they have to pay back the bar AND whatever they drank.

The question I have is if they weren't the people who picked up my tab, should I go ahead and pay them what I think I drank anyways.

Rather confused here--if they (the party hosts) picked up your tab, isn't it basically costless to them? Either they pay the bar for your drinks or they pay the bar for not drinking enough. If I were a host cutting a deal and realized I was short, I would have treated the rest of the bar too.

This used to work for Mets fans and Red Sox fans, thanks to the Yankees. At least up until Mookie hit a little ground ball and Buckner began to slowly move toward it...

No. If they paid for your tab, they wanted to pay for your tab.

And conversely, the English still think the French and the Scots both suck.

Please. Montepulciano is the new sangiovese, which has now become the mojito of low-carb pisco sours. Try to keep up.

coincidental irony

Confidential Note to the Board:

FYI, fwiw, for the record, for personal reasons wholly unrelated to PLF or The Paigow, no offence, I have decided that henceforth and in the future, for purposes of this board and otherwise, as applicable, I will go by the name The Spartan.

By way of explanation, when I first joined the internet style chatting boards back on prodigy.net in the oldskool days, I was given a screen name based upon the Seinfeld Show, a television program which was very popular back in the 50s.

Of course, like disco before it, that thang too did pass, i.e. Seinfeld ended. Of cancer. No offence.

In light of this, I want to attach myself to another name, which is in no way a negation of what the Seinfeld show was, but for me, I want to attach myself to the energy of a different name.

Before anyone starts giving me the usual shite, let me just say that I'm a little bit irritated in advance that people will think that this name change is like some celebrity band wagon ploy that I am jumping on, or that, say, somebody like SlaveNoMore (who has also changed his name multiple times) has jumped on too (fwiw, I don't even know him-but bottom line, we don't take it lightly, iykwim).

Its like, Paris Hilton. Nuff said.

Anyhoo, its been rizzle, see y'all on the flizzle sizzle.

Signing out,

Penske

Can anyone who has bought the Velvet Revolver CD comment on the copy protection? Reviewers over on Amazon seem pretty fucking angry: apparently the CD will not play in a CD-ROM drive (i.e. anything that is not a stand-alone cd player). Bummer...

Kind of derivative of Atticus, don't you think?
