Was this a Halloween special? I'm surprised Hell could spare him during the busy season.

Unfortunately, supply in this market is highly elastic. People respond to high prices by running more head.

Idiot Box

David Blaine still on display in box. What exactly makes the stupid shit he does worthy of the illusionist title?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe...ine/index.html

from the story --

Blaine has had hamburgers, bacon sandwiches, eggs, golf balls and even paint bombs thrown at him. A man was arrested on September 16 for trying to sabotage his water supply.

Others have tried to keep him awake by beating drums nearby, barbecues have been lit to torment him, and some have bared breasts and buttocks at him.

He said: "That was in the beginning and it was a little scary, but it's to be expected.

Apparently nudity affected him more than the sabotaged water supply. It makes me happy to know that he'll be footing the police bill.

More Evidence Atkins Was Right

There is a new controlled diet study out that shows people eating a low carb diet can eat more calories and lose weight.

An excerpt:

In the end, everyone lost weight. Those on the lower-cal, low-carb regimen took off 23 pounds, while people who got the same calories on the lowfat approach lost 17 pounds. The big surprise, though, was that volunteers getting the extra 300 calories a day of low-carb food lost 20 pounds.

"It's very intriguing, but it raises more questions than it answers," said Gary Foster of the University of Pennsylvania. "There is lots of data to suggest this shouldn't be true."

Greene said she can only guess why the people getting the extra calories did so well. Maybe they burned up more calories digesting their food.

Dr. Samuel Klein of Washington University, the obesity organization's president, called the results "hard to believe" and said perhaps the people eating more calories also got more exercise or they were less apt to cheat because they were less hungry.

We are soulmates. As you were posting this, I was at home eating cold pizza left over from my Son's dinner and sucking down my, let's see, 10:42pm, that would be, counting fingers, sixth beer of the evening. And watching the Sox kick some yankee tail -- well, not really an asskicking but a win nonetheless. Great pitching. Knuckleballer. I am from NY, originally, and have always hated the yankees.

The problem with wine is its served in bars, where bourbon tends to also be served. I like wine, but if given the choice between fine small batch bourbons and wine, I'll always go with bourbon.

That said, I can fire through bottles of Piper Heidsick and Pere Jouet like water. If champagne is available, I'll always go for it above all else... the problem with ordering it, however, is that you always wind up sucking down most of the bottle yourself.

S(why is it that people think they can only drink champagne at weddings/new years eve?)D

At least half of New York (Mets fans) hates the Yankees, too.

Damn bullies got what was coming to them last night.

I don't know if I'd call it a "fine" Shiraz, per chef, but the Yellow Tail Shiraz (and their Cab/Shiraz) is an amazing value at $6-8. Their cab is pretty decent, too. Their whites, not so much. Although still probably a good value at $6 a bottle.

Holds its own surprisingly well with a weirdly broad variety of meats. I've become much less of a red-wine snob since.

I'm not surprised Atkins was right. Have you ever tried to feed white bread or rice to your cat? No animal will eat it. Take a look at the fattest people you know... I'll bet you most of them are bread and cake lovers. I stopped eating white bread and pasta years ago when I read just how nutritionally useless they were. And sure enough, I dropped a lot of weight. Hell, I won't even go near an Italian restauraant anymore becuase there's no point... Why would I eat something tasteless and bad for me when I can eat meats/fish/poultry which is miles more tasty and nutritional? Any sauce that can be put on bread/pasta can be put on fish, chicken or seafood...
