In the 1986 movie Back to the Future 2 , there was a scene where the Christopher Lloyd Character is looking through the sports almanac and he happens to "look Back" at the 2003 World Series. He tells Michael J. Fox that the Boston Red Sox won the 2003 series by beating a Florida team. (what is even more amazing was that when the movie was made Florida didn't even have a baseball team then.)
From imdb.com

Despite the rumor that circulated in 1997, shortly after the Florida Marlins beat the Cleveland Indians for the World Series, the movie does not "spookily" predict the result. No mention is made of "Florida" winning the World Series at all, and the only mention of a Florida-based team is in a news broadcast which announces that the Chicago Cubs beat Miami in the 2015 World Series (a joke at the Cubs' expense - they hadn't won the World Series since 1908).

Oh puhleeze. Don't EVEN try that one. Read more better.
This appeared on the WCSH web page. You're saying that they just post stuff without proofreading? Editing? Nothing?

Yes, because most asian restaurants get Yale Creative Writing grads to write their ad-copy and menus.
I expected more better from you.

See above regarding the NBC affiliate. If they're not going to proof, or the person typing in the copy isn't going to proof, then it's my job as a compulsive to make fun of it.

While not exactly on point, this reminds me of a school description listed in the book on Manhattan private schools -- you know. the kind of book that lists all the schools and tells you a bit about them? Some enterprising moms (really) took it upon themselves to go see all the schools and talk to parents, etc. and compile this book as a reference tool for rubes (like me) who are looking to send their kids to private school in Manhattan.

So anyway, there's one school where -- HONEST TO GOD -- the narrative says [this is a paraphrase, but an accurate one], "One parent describes the diversity at [school] as follows: 'I was expecting that all the students would be very [polite euphemism for whitebread/homogeneous], but it's not true! There's even a family from England in one of the classes.'"

Imagine that!! ENGLAND!!

(There's always a token black kid and a token Asian kid in all the school brochures. I can just imagine the announcement by the principal: "Would all [both?] minority students please report to the office for the brochure photo op?")

I think you're right. Another of their Preferred Restaurants uses similarly stilted English.

"The Wok Inn South Portland believes in serving the best Chinese food for their guests. Mr. Lee (friends call him “Lee”), said, 'We cook what we are excellent at . . . Chinese cuisine.'"

http://www.wcsh6.com/diningguide/art...d=66&dsid=1770

It continues:

"Moreover, the dining room has ambiance that is relaxing, clean and comfortable, adorned with eye-catching Chinese Buddha statues. Many patrons like to look at Kuan Yin, the Bodhisattva of compassion . . . very beautiful. "

You should spend more time gazing at Kuan Yin. You could use some compassion.

They are called "trousers" if they are suitable for wear any place other than gardening or some cheap dive.

"Pants" are the sounds Less makes after too many tequila and Tangs.

Too bad we don't have an ignore feature for words so you could skip past all of my posts where I use the word "slacks". Slacks slacks slacks.

And I once knew a guy who had (and wore) black Calvin Klein jean shorts. That one item of clothing violated five of my dealbreakers.
"Slacks" are the foofy flowy New Yorky pants New Englanders have to wear when we have to dress up more than khakis but for some reason aren't supposed to wear a good wool suit instead.

I have never known anyone who wore black Calvin Klein jorts. Their boxers, however, are the only right thing to wear vegging around the house drinking tea and reading the paper on Sundays.

So what you do is criticize/make fun of the chinese description and then proceed to say I could use some compassion.

Look in the mirror bucko.

I think the following probably explains things: "For more information on how to become a Preferred Restaurant, e-mail our sales department."

So, blame the sales department.

Now, back to fun. I've got a basketful of gadget manuals that provide laughs by the bushel.
