You sound fairly familiar with those sites, dear. Maybe IT should be sent to check out your favorites list?

They weren't, it's been a family name for 6 or 8 generations. You forget, the trailer trash are the people in this country who have real history here.

I've now interested myself in how many "bubba" first names I've heard that I can trace back to confederate generals.

Anderson
Archer
Armstrong
Ashby
Baldwin
Barton
Beauregard
Benton
Brandon
Brantley
Buford
Butler
Campbell
Carter
Clark
Clayton
Cooper
Forrest
Gibson
Gordon
Gray
Grayson
Hanson
Hardy/Hardee
Harris
Harrison
Jackson
Lawton
Lee
Logan
Lovell
Marshall
Morgan
Northrop
Palmer
Perry
Preston
Price
Ross
Shelby
Taylor
Tracy
Tyler
Walker
Wayne

In retrospect, that was a boring exercise. And that's just generals, I didn't bother with colonels, also popular. I even left out names that I think were probably introduced here as surname-conversions around this time but were not-unheard-of first-names abroad, like Vaughn, Scott, & Marmaduke. I'll bet you are somewhat surprised that (i) some of those names are such recent innovations as first names and (ii) some of those names have been around as first names as long as they have. I was.

and what exactly is the difference here besdies the fact that one ethnic xerox is in the form of a name and the other is in the form of a man skirt?
It's that the guy is under the impression that it is "his clan's" tartan. There are honorary tartans for all Americans, regardless of heritage, and may for state residents, too. But the Lipschitz are not a sept of the Lamonts, no matter what the clerk in the kilt shop told him.

And Thrasher's Fan (I should mention here that I never even heard of the Thrashers until you came along... not a big hockey fan, as you might have guessed, but now I hear about them all the time!), I meant no disrespect to your son's name. Anyone on this board with offspring having any of the offending names is, of course, exempt from my censure.

Brianna? That's a celtic name. Feminine form of Brian. Strikes me as about as fake fancy as Pauline.

Boys need a name with at least a hint of testosterone in it. I am afraid that boys named Hunter end up associating with women of outrageous character as an overcompensation.

Oh geez, did I come off bitchy? Not intended. Just saying that while Taylor is on your cheezy list people should not mistake it for Tyler which apparently is not. I would apologize for offending thou but as everyone knows I am saving my one good apology in case there is a God.

The facts and circumstances are such that my son is way cooler and much less trashy than I am

Note: Rank 1 is the most popular, rank 2 is the next most popular, and so forth.

First off, we have a lot of classy, hooker types in the girls side. A lot. Destiny? Savannah? Jenna? Brianna?

Second. "makayla" ? It is Michaela. Texan for Michael. these makaylahs must live in the deep south where names are famously misspelle.d

third. Isaac?

Fourth: I am disappointed by the showing of Dylan and Brandon. Perhaps they peaked inthe late nineties, along with 90210? And Taylor as a girls's name should be stronger but I am sure it is still moving on up. Apparently, it is still a safe Wasp name for a boy. My ex with the palace on Bellevue can breathe a sigh of relief.

Fifth. Hunter is 38 on boy's. Which makes it a de facto bullshit name for a girl. Sorry dtb.

Sixth. Surprised and bummed to see one of my favorites, Abigail, make it inthe top ten. better put off having kids til the populartiy declines.

This could go far in explaining why he dated my sister for so long.

Clearly you have not been hanging out with the children of hairdressers, darlin. Time to pull your snout out of the bodice ripper.

I can only hope that her last name isn't Thompson.

Between this and the hogging article I read yeterday in some Cleveland publication, I am starting to believe that Ohio may be a truly creepy place.

Jordan is 37th for boys and 46th for girls. That should mean that my son is okay for at least a few years. Hopefully the tide will not turn and cause him to hate me over this. Tyler is 14th on the boys list and not on the girls at all. If all else fails, we use the little fan's middle name. I believe that he can use either name in his professional career in hockey or baseball.
