of the petunias, you were the daintiest
others could not compare
thanks to you I learned how to use the ignore list
your posts drove me to dispair
so some may ask, ncs do you miss plf's new incarnation?
the answer is too complex
grating posts lacking substance, overuse of exclamations
annoying smilies meant only to vex
but still underneath the surface
he showed me ignore lists serve a purpose
so thank you TDP
for educating me
my ignore list will miss you
but the FB will not.

Breaking News
Cnn has a note on its breaking news section that the house office building on Capitol Hill has been evacuated after reports of a possibly armed intruder.
Also, a parking garage (under construction) has collapsed in NJ.

What the hell does "The One" mean?
|
Who is the One you ask???
I'm glad you asked Seb. You see, the "One" is an anagram for "NEO"
NEO is the name of the reluctant hero portrayed by action heartthrob Keanu Reeves, star of the long-awaited third episode of the Matrix trilogy - " MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS" - coming next Wednesday to a local theater near YOU!!!!!!
Avoid the lines and buy your ticket TODAY on Moviefone.
And perhaps while you wait, enjoy a cold, frosty Coca-Cola. Have a Coke and a smile!!!
Thank you and enjoy the show!!!

It's been an hour since you drank that coffee -- you should head to the restroom.

Slave, when we had that little intervention a while back and told you you should get a "Sponsor", this isn't what we had in mind...

Unfortunately, I have it on very good authority that the nuns who wore/still wear the habit are under a strict duty to shave where a woman shouldn't and not to shave where a woman should. It will probably not surprise you to learn that your fantasy will remain so for more than one reason.
As for being the next Danielle Steele, your writing is going to have to suddenly become a whole lot more popular with the ladies.

Okay. I have an actual fashion question, and it has nothing to do with socks.
There is a woman who works in my building. She is not an especially attractive woman and would not ordinarily garner much notice on the street from others.
However, I noticed the other day as she walked into the building that she was wearing a rather nice suit ensemble with a white blouse and a man's tie.
Maybe I'm just normally not that observant, but in those rare instances that I have seen variations on this ensemble, I usually think one of two things, either Annie Hall or a clown like you would see at a children's birthday party. However, in this case, the look was crisp and professional and, dare I say, rather striking.
I was just wondering whether any of you have noticed this phenomenon with any sort of regularity, and do you think this look works in general for women, or is the woman I observed just an oddball contrarian?
Thoughts?

Sigh. OK. But I note for the record that SEBBY AND ABBA STARTED IT. They denied even the possibility of the Mr's Oneness. (Sniff.)
Unfortunately, you can count the Mr. along with Sebby's wife as one of those provincial genital concealers.
For something completely different, can I just say that, for some reason, today I want to STRANGLE the secretary outside my office with her general inability to deal with anything, her little sweet childish voice and her HORRIBLE NJ accent. Dunno why, it doesn't usually bother me. She's not my secretary.

Does this include armpits and legs? Because I could handle banging a bald nun with a disco mitt, but I don't go in for the Patti Smith action.

They all have Joysee accents. Thank your lucky stars you don't have to suffer Northeast Philly accents.

I have seen this from time to time. It is rare enough that I normally notice it when the person does it, and I have found it, if done properly, to be as you say, quite striking.
And damn, there were a lot of commas in that run on sentence.

This is not that usual, because most women are smart enough to realize that the usual result is either the Annie Hall or the clown look you mention.
This fall, there is a definite "menswear" thing going on. Some looks have included ties, others just tailored suits in menswear fabrics & tweeds. I think there have also been some uses of ties as a belt (shades of 1986) and tie-skirts or dresses here and there. Nevertheless, I have not observed an upswing in female tie wearing (probably for the reason above).
I have done (and still do) this on occasion, and I agree that it can be a very sharp look, as you observed. But the key is that the tie must be worn with a suit or suit equivalent, the suit must be really well fitted, and the overall look must be very female and very groomed. There can be no suggestion of anything dumpy at all (which probably rules out the look for anyone more than slightly overweight, and certainly rules out messy hair or often even long hair worn loose). The mantra to chant while putting together this style is "Marlene, Marlene, Marlene," not "Diane, Diane."
Sounds like the woman you observed understands this.
Some useful guidelines:
Jacket must have a waist. You must have a waist.
Jacket (and vest, if any) should remain buttoned up.
If the suit has trousers, they should be loose and drape well.
If the suit has a skirt, it should not be very short - showing leg above the knee undercuts the masculine/feminine play of the look.
Don't wear fishnets; like a short skirt, it is just too much.
Shirt should be properly fitted - do not try this with a man's shirt, it will bag and you will look dumpy.
Be wary of earrings or bracelets. You can have fun with rings, though.
Red manicures work well with this look. Go for feminine details, not overt female sexuality (or overly casual anti-sexuality a la Annie Hall).
Shoes must be delicate - no laceups or oxfords or loafers.
Hair must be rigorously styled. A "natural look" is your enemy here, particularly if your hair falls much below your chin or can get out of control. But don't just scrape it back from your face - it must remain feminine.
Must wear makeup. Needn't be heavy or dark, but you must wear makeup to play up the feminine polish.
And, of course, as with anything, any of these guidelines may not apply to a specific individual or a given outfit, so in the end you must rely on your judgment.
