A friend who lives in that part of town tested out all the competitors in his house and found that Sprint is the only one that gets him service in his house. BUt if Sprint sucks, that is something to consider. I sorta thought they had better phone selections than AT&T does (nota Nokia person), but maybe I'm wrong.

My thoughts on Sprint: they can go fuck themselves.
(1) AT LEAST three times they've threatened to cancel my service b/c of unpaid bills, and I have always paid on time.
(2) They charge you airtime for customer service. Fuck you.
(3) They charge you $5 for paying online (which is noted as a "service charge" on your bill, so I didn't know it was linked to online payments). Again, fuck you.
(4) Their phones suck and their coverage, while expansive, fades in and out like John Travolta's career.
So yes, I will change my plan to...VERIZON? or T-Mobile? I may choose T-Mobile just b/c of Catherine Zeta-Jones...

There is this bar in my cushy hometown known as "the Polish Club". It is the haven for the drunken mailcarrier and his impoverished alcoholic blue collar friends. We rich kids used to slum there bc they had a pool table, and to prove that we were cool and down with the working man.
Anyway I used to go frequently for a stint and one of the Greg Allman doubles regulars asked to shoot pool with me or whatever. I said sure, bc I got to cut the line or something. His scary female unit person came over and told me to stay away from her man. I cant remember exactly what I said or did but know it has something to do with shock emanating from the fact that I could be interestd in that gross slob, but she slugged me in the face.
My first and only bar brawl.

I have T-Mobile. I like it. Much better than Sprint for me. My husband has Verizon, though and it seems to be better. I may end up going over to that.
Edited to note that I have no idea what the coverage is like where you live and so this is all pretty meaningless.

okay. how about this SS. Don't you think Ickes needs a new website designer. His home page illustration is a bridge with a pretty rainbow and an inviting gate. this is maybe a little misrepresentative of the contents of the site, lizards are manipulating every aspect of our lives, have been doing so for generations, and will suck the blood from anyone who is blond hair/ blue eyed.
I'm no webpage designer, but wouldn't something a little more neutral be in order?

I don't view these images an incompatible. It's just a matter of perspective.

I was jumped while riding my bike in college. It was 2 AM and I was very drunk and very high. The guy knocked me over (not too difficult at that time) and I cracked my skull on the pavement. Still cracked. Cops were driving by RIGHT when it happened. Bad luck for him. Unfortunately for me, I was 20 years and 363 days old and couldn't drink on my 21st b/c of the severe concussion.*
*I really didn't want to pass out and urinate myself anyway.**
**Who am I kidding? Yes I did.

In college, I've had to run for my life on several occasions while walking back and forth late at night from the academic buildings back to my dorm. Usually some thug or a group of thugs would casually block my path as I would be walking along wearily with my heavy backpack, at which point I would turn and scurry off in the opposite direction like a scared animal.
After about the second time this happened, I took a firearms training course, as well as a marksmanship course, and seriously looked into getting a gun permit. Unfortunately, firearms were not allowed in the dormitories. Damn.
Similar incidents have happened to me in the NYC subway -- usually a group of young men sense that I'm an out-of-towner and would follow me, oftentimes yelling "Are you lost?" I swear that if I had a gun, I would have had a Bernie Goetz moment each and every time.

First, you know this, but of course don't need to explain why you posted as anon.
Second, sorry for the silence following your post. Just like IRL. People don't know what to do or say when somebody reveals something really significant, and so the person's revelation just sits out there, unacknowledged.*
So I'll acknowledge it, since I can't do so by PM: I'm sorry that that happened to you and I'm glad you survived, in more than just the physical sense.
* This usually happens when I note that my mother died (years ago, but it still hurts like hell). When I posted that here, however, Thurgreed made a joke. I admired that, because one's dead mother is generally such a not-to-be-joked-about thing. If I had Thurgreed's cajones (or even neuticles), I would have written above, "unacknowledged, like a fart in your boss's office." But I'm a wuss, so I have to put it in small type.

Isn't Verison the service that gets you (some) coverage in the subways?
That, to me, beats all.

I have Verizon. It works on the DC metro (AT&T never did), but not in my office (seriously thick stone on the building, and no fucking window in my office, which is driving me to the brink, by the way). Otherwise, I've never dropped a call in my home area or anywhere else in the U.S. The coverage is such that I've never paid a roaming charge.
I have a Samsung phone, which is fine feature-wise, but if there's a lot of background noise I can barely hear the converation. The volume is not as loud as on my Nokia.

BTW, if you do switch, donate your phone to a women's shelter, (they can still dial 911), rather than fill up a landfill
Don't know about the NYC, but in DC Verizon has the subway covered, but others can roam on to their system (as I do with AT&T--don't know RP's problem)

Almost fifteen years ago I was the victim of an attempted rape. Luckily I saw the rapist first and started to move in the opposite direction. He caught me and tried to pull me into some nearby bushes. I was able to to knee him where my momma told me never to knee a man with an erection, and get away. Although I wasn't raped I was stabbed in the chest. I was very lucky because several good samaritans came to my aid and were able to stanch the bleeding and call the paramedics. My attacker was caught. During the prelim his family was overheard discussing having me killed because they all realized that he was looking at some serious jail time. Then the intimidation started. I was followed by scary looking men to and from work. I had to change my telephone number several times because of harrassing, sick and twisted calls. For my safety, I moved in with friends who lived in the 'burbs. During the trial I was brought to court in an unmarked police vehicle, escorted by two burly police officers from the sex crimes unit through the back corridors of the criminal courts. I have seen the seamy side of life and don't ever want to participate in it again.
