"From Dusk 'Till Dawn" satisfies both criteria nicely. There's also "Swordfish" , the virtues of which have been praised on the FB previously.

I had a revelation last night. I always thought there was something kind of sexy about Simon, but at the same time I found that thought disturbing. I couldn’t figure it out until all of a sudden I realized how much he reminds me of my dad. Too weird.

Rickey: Surprisingly sounded better in the high parts than the lower parts, but overall just okay.

Carmen: Her best performance so far, but that just means she didn’t suck as much as usual.

Kim C: Missed it because the phone rang.

Clay: So here’s a guy who is great at one thing, and that is Elton John ballads. Force him to sing R&B, country or disco, and it will all come out like Circle of Life. He shouldn’t win the title of AI, but I’ll bet there is a market for his talent.

Trenyce: Inconsistent performance. Had some great moments but some very weak ones as well.

Ruben: I love the velvet teddy bear, but this performance did nothing to show off his talent.

Kim L: I didn’t hate her song, but perhaps it was because I was busy hating her dress.

Josh: Ouch. The worst performance of the competition by anyone.

Bottom 3: Kim L, Kim C, Josh.

To supplement: I have a free pass to go out to the movies tonight. Ralph (not his real name) and I generally have a few drinks beforehand, and then hit a collosally bad movie (e.g., Mission to Mars, Thin Red Line, Our Lady of Assassin).

Kafka-ette and I regularly go to the movies (a/k/a Date Night), leaving kafka-tot at home to torment the babysitter, so we are fairly current on date-night movies (I loved "ten ways to lose a guy," and was one of only two fonts of testosterone in the otherwise estrogen-filled theater . . .).

In sum, am looking for current "movies for guys who like movies" recs.

For gratuitously violent home viewing, I highly recommend Dog Soldiers, a Scottish werewolf movie released last year.

If Guy Ritchie ever decided to remake something entertaining, say, Predator, it would probably resemble this: a fidgety, extremely gory werewolf thriller in which a platoon on maneuvers in Scotland runs afoul of some gangly lycanthropes. It's nothing Hollywood hasn't done before (and more elaborately), but there's something quaintly refreshing about the blokes' ''cor blimey'' banter and the fact that even while under siege in a remote country house, they still find time to put the kettle on.

Did you mean it to be normative or positive? Literal or slang? I think it would be a stretch to interpret your comment as "the reason that nobody likes this guy is because he sucks cock (and by extension, nobody likes any sword-swallower, including you)." Anyone who's going to get too offended over a comment like that just ain't worth worrying about.

Oh, and Jack, I haven't picked up Elephant yet, but are you going to Coachella? I read a tantalizing review of "Eisley" in Rolling Stone, and they're playing there too. I'm fired up baby. Three more weeks . . .
