I guess objectively speaking, one could consider him cool for his time. But this everlasting love makes no sense. He thrusts his pelvis and wears white suits with capes. Uh...so what?

He made black music truly mainstream instead of exotic for white people, without (too) horribly homogenizing it first. He showed the blues/gospel roots of rock & roll for what they were, & made it acceptable. Seems a pretty big accomplishment to me. Dunno about the religious zeal of it all, but still....

I saw Gothika and it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It was a complete waste of money. Halle Berry sucked. Penelope Cruz sucked. The movie got horrible reviews but I didn't believe it could be that bad. It was.

I'm hoarse today because I yelled for three straight quarters of football yesterday (it would have been five, but the first half was unexciting), and threatened all sorts of things against the Texans. They, or at least their defense, sort of listened to me and made sure that they stayed in the game until, oh, 42 seconds left in overtime. First time I'd ever seen a blocked kick in overtime in person. Hell of a game, and I'm glad we made a few New England fans a little nervous.

I don't know what made him great, but if you go to Graceland for the comedy, go during "Elvis week", the anniversary of his death. We* unintentionally went during that week - you get to see all the tribute wreathes and flower sculptures etc that his fans have so lovingly prepared. Avoid the vigils though - even when you're shitfaced they're not tolerable.
*we in this case refers to me and my friends (not me and my husband. or me and the OddMan)

I don't think I know anyone under the age of, say, 45 that goes to Graceland for anything other than the cheese factor. Sort of like going to Roswell, NM. My sister and I wanted to put together a road trip of all the cheesy destination places to go in the US. Stuff like Natural Bridge Caverns, Vegas, Aquamarina Springs (too bad Ralph the Diving Pig died), etc.

Yeah. But I think he asked Lehman to get off.

Why? Does the material they are made of become ineffective over time? How long do they last?

Latex becomes brittle over time and more prone to breakage. The expiration date seems to be a couple of years from manufacture. Heat also contributes to the breakdown of latex, so one shouldn't leave the condom bowl on the window sill in the summer, or a box under the front seat of the car. Nor should one carry a spare in the wallet; in addition to creating a tacky ring, the heat of the body and the friction of it moving around under the weight of the body will destroy it pretty quickly.

Okay. I guess I can see that, although I don't (i) think most of the people who make the pilgrimage think of him that way and (ii) understand why people still weep over his death. But then again, I don't get why people weep when they meet Michael Jackson or Tom Cruise, either. But I doubt they will 20 years after their deaths.
