I would never deny watching Olivia and Eliot and Ice-T and that guy from Homicide catch the bad guys. And the blond chick lawyer on SVU is way better than the annoying blond chick lawyer on regular L&O.

Actually, I don't think that's what I read. I didn't understand the Schilling trade based on what I read about what Arizona wanted from us (before the actual trade) and what they ended up with. There was no one story on the Yankees getting screwed (other than after the Sauerbeck move and that was all over Baseball Tonight).

I think you're assuming I read a piece in the Post that said, "Yankees screwed again." When actuality, the headline of one of the articles in the Daily News I read today says, "Bombers Whiff" (no joke).

And I don't think it happens all the time. But I do think that the Yankees pay above market for plenty of their players -- homegrown or free agents.

If the Schilling trade goes through, I don't want to hear any crap about how the Yankees can outspend everyone, anymore, from anybody. The simple fact is, we have more money than everyone else, but we are hindered by our own success.

We wanted Schilling. We didn't get him because Arizona wanted Nick Johnson and Alfonso Soriano -- two excellent players (one of whom has flirted with 40/40 two seasons in a row, the other hit over .300 this season and is widely believed to be an excellent young hitter). Boston is giving up Fossum (yeah, who?) and 3 prospects who haven't done a damn thing.

Same thing happened last year with Pittsburgh. We wanted Sauerbeck, Pittsburgh asked for Giambi, Mariano and Clemens. We told them to forget it. Boston wanted Sauerbeck, Pittsburgh asked for some clam chowder and a beer. Boston sent them the chowder, kept the beer and signed Sauerbeck.

Boston is interested in trading Manny Ramirez, one of the highest paid players in baseball for Alex Rodriguez, the highest paid player in baseball and current MVP. Can't say I blame them for this. But if they pull it off, they will have spent like champs in the offseason.

The thing is, they look like geniuses for making all of these shrewd moves. But they're really just taking advantage of teams not wanting to deal with the Yankees. And we always end up paying above market for the players we do sign (by trade or in free agency). But no one ever takes that into account when they look at our payroll.

So just keep that in mind.

TM
And notice that Milwaukee - owned by the Commissioner - is once again a party to these shenanigans. The same commissioner that allowed the Red Sox to break the rules last year and allow too much cash to be transferred along with that chowder to the Pirates.

I hope they swap A-Rod for Manny and have to dump Nomar. Lose your two best hitters [does anyone not think Bill Mueller was a fluke] for one. Talk about subtraction by addition.

*Still not completely done. I imagine if the Yanks actually wanted to lose Johnson and Soriano, Schilling would jump Boston's ship in a heartbeat.
The fact that this deal is not, in fact, done, means that Schilling's people are trying to get the D-Backs to accept a trade for Jeff Weave, a Chocodile and a can of Dr. Pepper.

I question this. The newspaper report is either (a) fictitious, (b) based on a discussion with someone in the Yankees front office, (c) based on a discussion with someone in the D-Backs front office, or (d) based on a discussion with someone else. I

That's Dr Pepper.

I am currently engaged in switching my wireless # from my current crappy provider to a new provider of unknown crappiness. I realize this is foolhardy given that the companies will probably be fucking this all up royally for several months, but I hardly use my cell phone so I decided I don't care. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

I have not read others' responses to your query, but believe me when I tell you that they are idiots and not qualified to answer your question (assuming you were anticipating an answer that is correct and not derived from the strenuous fizzling group effort of the three or four remaining brain cells in a once-promising mind). They are also assholes and cockliques. In addition, I hate them.

New York City will be very empty and you will have no problems cabbing around. This is based on my last few years of being in the city for Thanksgiving.

I will be in Boston this year with the woman I had to start dating because I could not wait for you forever.

Please let me know how correct my answer was.

Much love to you.

Reminds me of a trade in the independent leagues I read about several years ago. A pitcher was traded for $5,000, a player to be named later, and 10 lbs. of catfish. "I can't believe they traded me for some catfish," he was quoted as saying.

Although this message appears to be addressed solely to paigow princess, it is not. It is addressed to you. Each and every one of you. Pushy may deny this, he may not. It matters little what he has to say on this subject, for we all know the truth. His desperate retreat up the coast to Boston only underscores the universe-shattering heartbreak each of you has caused.

Do you see what you have done? You sicken me. Each of you. To say that I am repulsed by you would be an absurdly hyperbolic compliment to you in comparison with my true feelings at this moment.

I must go comfort Pushy now.

Warning: Pay the Fat Hooker!

I'm disappointed by that article. I was hoping he died because the fat hooker sat on his chest and he couldn't breath (that was on one of the CSIs or L&Os recently).

You're behind the times. The SVU blonde chick lawyer got "killed off"** in one of the early episodes this year.

**This being L&O, she wasn't actually killed; she drew the attention of a Columbian drug lord whose killed his GF (who was secretly an undercover cop from the DEA) because she told people he had a pencil dick. They faked her death to put her in a witness protection program but only Olivia knows she's still alive because she was shot right in front of Olivia, Ice T and Eliot but blonde chick lawyer arranged a meeting so we all would know she wasn't dead in case she decided to come back to the show.

I think I get what the other poster was saying about twists.

You are dating someone from Bahston? How do you deal with the accent? I am actually finding that it is growing on me, which I never would have thought possible. That said, I am devastated by this news that your relationship is so serious you are going there for a major holiday. Baby, give me one more chance. Tomorrow night. I will cab wherever.

Reality Dating Show Updates (Spoilers)

I'm sure Bilmore has been waiting for this all week.

spoiler space

Joe $$:

Oh yawn. Once again they made it come down to the bad girl who put out and the good girl who didn't. Not that the producers manipulated the situation at all, but the good girl got mostly morning or afternoon dates and the bad girl got all evening dates.) Wingnut that I am, I was ready to hurl if David used the word "pure" to describe Linda one more time.

We had the brief hope that she dumped his sorry ass when she found out he wasn't rich but a quick look at the TV guide showed another half hour so you knew it wasn't to be. She got $250,000 American for picking him and he got a 90 acre ranch, supposedly in the Austin/hill country part of Texas, for being a boring dope.

Average Joe: Melana got a good look at the new cute buys' bods when they played BBall and they were the Skins team and also got to compare bodies when they were all in the pool with the average guys (bonus points for upping the insecurity levels of the average guys -- one went into major diet and exercise mode). She chose 2 cute guys for one-on-one dates to get a chance to know them. Her gaydar (or bi-dar) went off with one of them but she sucked face anyway. Melana dumped one of the cute guys for being a potential stalker and dumped the delusional geek because he decided they were in love because she gave him two pecks on the cheeks (bonus points if they show his reaction to all the heavy kissing with the other guys on the inevitable reunion show).

Next week has the potential to be marvelous. Melana's fat and dumpy "cousin" (actually her in a fat suit) will meet with the guys. Hilarity is sure to ensue.

Oooh. Sprint, possibly clued into the fact that I hate their service with the fire of a thousand angry suns*, has been sending me love letters for the last two weeks. The e-mail says stuff like "we're so glad you chose Sprint" and "We want you to know that you're a special customer." I am resisting switching right now, if only because I'm trying to find out which is the lesser of the evils out there and I've heard that there might be a 40% switch over failure rate in the first few weeks.

*possible exaggeration. It could be more the fire of a mildly pissed off nova or agitated quasar. I should have paid more attention in astronomy.
