I would be willing to admit that I am whiter than TM, if that admission would be read as self-loathing to such a degree that Tiger's wife-to-be would spend a night with me out of pity.

Of course, I would also be willing to admit that I am blacker than TM, if that admission would . . .

I know that's why she changed her nose. And Mrs. Wonk swears she's had jello bags put in her chest, but I'm not buying it.

Good point. But those topics aren't really ones I would discuss here. You're right that people should be made aware of them, but it is difficult to answer 100 questions on such topics from people who haven't actually experienced them. Not the best excuse to avoid bringing them up, but as you know, it gets pretty personal, pretty quick with such topics.

You just can't appreciate a nice light cafe au lait. Look at her hair. A little twisty (OK, sometimes she irons it), with that reddish sheen (when she doesn't dye it) in otherwise dark brown hair. She's no sweede.

I'd say he changed his name because he knew, just as well as I know, that the ethnic sounding last names on resumes tend to be passed over, especially back in the late 60s/early 70s. If I can be asked--based on my last name alone, in a telephone job interview in 2001--whether I consider myself to be hispanic, I imagine that the questions for him when he was first looking for roles would have been more intense, if they bothered to give him an audition at all. Why would he have named his children Emilio and Carlos if he wanted to deny his heritage?

I generally don't speak Spanish in public either, despite the fact that it was my first language.

It isn't that we missed it. It is that there is no point in discussing it when the bulk of the conversation is simple race baiting.

The self hatred a lot of minorities feel is often as destructive if not more so than that of the larger society. Of course, that self hatred comes from the way society treats them in the first place.

And I also agree with TM, having engaged in similar conversations myself on the subject of self hatred, they aren't easy conversations, get very personal, and are often better held face to face.

You are clearly too stupid (personal attack? or opinion drawn from the facts?) to see that this:

I said I didn't think that was evidence of his issues, but his downplaying his being part black at every opportunity was. I don't need justification for that and I didn't ask for it.
doesn't mesh with this:

Maybe he actually thinks of himself this way. Maybe he thinks that everyone who puts a bunch of importance on the answer to this question is as foolish as you. Maybe he's trying to tell you and everyone who keeps asking the fucking question that it's none of your or their business.

This is why you're arguing on a second grade level. You draw conclusions that don't necessarily follow from his actions and then you say, "Shut up about it" if he tries to address the issue and doesn't do so to your flawed satisfaction.

Oh, my personal attacks fall squarely in the kindergarden realm. I'll admit that. But "second grade level" was aimed at the substance of your argument, dumbass.

George Bush's grandson has been called a Spic before (and so have I), and this was in the 80s and 90s, not the 60s. I heard Geraldo Rivera used to be Gerry Rivers for the same reason. However, if Geraldo can change his name back, why can't Ramon? I have heard him say "in my heart I am still Ramon Estevez", but I don't buy it. You don't speak spanish in public much, and neither do I, but if you hang around me long enough, you will hear it. He is on TV a lot because of his political activism, but I have never heard him utter a word of Spanish. If you have heard it, then tell me and will change my opinion of him--maybe.*

*Ordering food in Mexican restaurant doesn't count. Even my boss who is really really really white can do that.

(edited to add that while I despise his political views, he was great in Apocalypse Now. Although the movie is usually mentioned is association with Brando, Brando was a fat bloated mumbling corpse in the movie. (Dennis Hopper sucked equally badly) Estevez and Duvall were great in it though.)

The Golden Tee World Championships:

My favorite excerpts:

"Ryan Bourgeois, a 32-year-old from Houston, was the

> year's U.S. team, by virtue of winning the U.S.
> national championship,
> the second-biggest tournament of the year, in Las

> par. He has 1,610
> lifetime holes-in-one. And he's already earned more
> than $95,000 playing
> Tee during the 2002-2003 season."

And:

> "Steve estimated he's made more than a quarter of a
> million dollars

> career. Every year,
> through the Incredible Technologies website (which
> keeps stats for all
> its registered players), Steve prints out his stats

Is there a Rock-n-Roll High School in store for NYC youth as well?

Hot Swede/Head Lingo/Self Loathing

Oy veh... worst thread ever...

I concluded the Swede was a spicy little meatball from her bikini photos which someone had linked.

WTF is self-loathing??? I love myself. Its mostly everyone other than me that I loathe. Why would anyone hate himself when there are so many people worth loathing. I don't have the loathing left at the end of the day to loathe myself.

When you go down on a chick, you're "going down" or "eating out." Head is what guys who like to watch hokcey while getting hummers call blow jobs.
