As I was reminded of yesterday when looking at some old Nast anti-Irish cartoons to post for Sebby, many of the things that are being said about Muslims today were being said about Catholics a hundred or so years ago.

My personal favorite of the anti-Irish Nast cartoons:

The second is particularly nasty for suggesting that any self-respecting Irishman would drink rum when there is Guinness and whisky to be had.

Hmmn. (1) Doggie Barb'ing: Depends whether the dog was Jewish. Or, perhaps, whether he also grilled non-Jewish dogs, such as Gypsy (aka "Roma") puppies, on a large scale (or grill). (2) Counting: depends on how he counted the Jews. Did he count them among his "best friends"? You often hear that sort of thing, but it turns out the speaker is an anti-semite.

P.S. Is the "funding co-chair" visiting terrorist-supporting nations with Nancy Pelosi?

Just checking. (:

P.S.S.: Mmnnnnn. Roast dog.

There are parellels. But you failed to admit they are very few.

Unless, of course, you subscribe to the notion that a Black person in America and Islamic immigrants in France are subsets of some larger group of natively low class, troubled peoples. Call a Black friend and tell you you've been thinking about how a lot of his life is analogous to the experiences of militant Islamists in the worst parts of Paris. I'm sure he'd discuss it with you, after he told you to go fuck yourself, rightly.

Liberals are so utterly full of shit about being enlightened. They subscirbe to every noxious racial/cultural stereotype as the Conservatives but think they get a pass because they exhibit a load of limousine liberal white guilt about the disadvantaged. They just want to group people into categories to support their obnoxious political arguments.

Every time I hear liberals whine about the treatment of any minority group I can't help but think of that line from the Dead Kennedys' "Holiday in Cambodia"... "Play ethnicky jazz to parade your snazz, on your five grand stereo... braggin' that you know how the n****rs feel cold and the slum's got so much soul..."

I'm curious to hear Diane's thoughts on whether John McCain is an anti-Semite, given who he consorts with:
  • According to Think Progress, Fred Malek, John McCain's new funding co-chair, was one of Richard Nixon's Jew-counters -- as in he, uh, counted Jews in the Bureau of Labor Statistics because Nixon though a cabal of them were doctoring the numbers -- and, when he was younger, got arrested for killing, skinning, and barbecuing a dog.

linky

Not to mention anti-dog.
Not a single Republican on here likes McCain one bit. Ergo, so what?

[Then again, Ellison's problem is not WHO he consorts with. It's WHO he is. See the dreck he wrote when he was going by the name "Keith Hakim" and a member of the NOI.]

Meanwhile, even the liberal WaPo agrees with me that Pelosi is a moron:

Quote:
“We came in friendship, hope, and determined that the road to Damascus is a road to peace,” Ms. Pelosi grandly declared.

Never mind that that statement is ludicrous: As any diplomat with knowledge of the region could have told Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Assad is a corrupt thug whose overriding priority at the moment is not peace with Israel but heading off U.N. charges that he orchestrated the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri. The really striking development here is the attempt by a Democratic congressional leader to substitute her own foreign policy for that of a sitting Republican president. Two weeks ago Ms. Pelosi rammed legislation through the House of Representatives that would strip Mr. Bush of his authority as commander in chief to manage troop movements in Iraq. Now she is attempting to introduce a new Middle East policy that directly conflicts with that of the president. We have found much to criticize in Mr. Bush’s military strategy and regional diplomacy. But Ms. Pelosi’s attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish.
Let's also not forget that Olmert claims she outright lied about Israel's stance towards Syria.

But hey, keep defending her "diplomatic outreach", shall we?

Yeah, things were going so good in the ME until she fucked it all up with her big mouth, dumb bitch that she is. And imagine curtailing Bush's ability to manage the war in Iraq - without his steady hand at the tiller just imagine where we'd be right now.

Makes sense. With the WTC, there'd be a lot more square footage available.

Translation: Bush isn't doing a good job with the war situation; therefore U.S. officials should be sent to cavort with terrorist-supporting nations who are working against U.S. interests. That will help.

I was talking about this business of labelling people as anti-Semites, not looking for a defense of McCain.

Why don't you point me to the most damning thing he wrote, since what I found when I looked wasn't all that damning. Maybe I didn't flip the right rocks.

Meanwhile, even the liberal WaPo....
Let's just stop pretending that the editorial page of the Washington Post is liberal. It's not. It's run by Fred Hiatt, who is liberal in the way that ironweed is a Rangers fan.

Quote:
...agrees with me that Pelosi is a moron:
When you come up with something that she actually said in Damascus that would make her a shadow President, you let me know. You haven't tried to explain why it's bad for Democrats to go to Syria but not for Republicans. All you, and Fred Hiatt, are doing is regurgitating White House talking points.

Quote:
Let's also not forget that Olmert claims she outright lied about Israel's stance towards Syria.
You don't dispute that Pelosi was asked by the Israelis to take a message to Syria:
  • Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who visited IDF forces in the North last week, heard an intelligence assessment and was informed of the dangers of a Syrian "miscalculation."

Following his visit to the forces in the field, a decision was made to publicly address the concerns of a possible deterioration with the Syrians, and to send a message that Israel has no intention of attacking Syria, nor is there any coordinated plan with the U.S. for a joint attack against Iran.

The speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is scheduled to meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus today, and will deliver a message of calm from Israel.

"We hope the message will be understood," political sources in Israel said yesterday. "The question is whether Assad is looking for an excuse ... so that he can carry out an attack against Israel in the summer, or whether this is a mistaken assessment."

link.

That was yesterday. If you read today's story about Pelosi's visit to Damascus and the subsequent Olmert comments, you might conclude that Pelosi made the mistake of repeating publicly something she was supposed to say quietly. You might conclude that there was some miscommunication somewhere. But if you read that story and come away with the thought that Pelosi is a liar, it's only because you read it what that idee fixe and were just looking for confirmation.
