Atrios:
- [C]onservative political humor these days involves referencing an alternative reality that they've created. They don't need jokes, they just need to point to the fantasy world they've created ("Nancy Pelosi's big plane! ahahahahaah!") so they can have a shared chuckle about it. There's no wit needed, just an invocation of pre-existing laugh lines based on their manufactured reality.

Don't tell me -- you drew those cartoons yourself.

When it comes to politics, is there such a thing as a good one?

I guess he couldn't muster the sheer brilliance it takes to post yet another set of variations-on-a-theme cartoons.

the same could be said for the leadership of the Dems. "bush is an idiot! and he ummm, hoodwinked me into voting for the War!"

Subsumed in my second criticism. Pardon my overgeneralization. Any time I use "Strident Left" it includes the Ivory Tower.

As you well know, I loathe this pack of waterheads we have running the country who run around calling themselves Republicans.
I generally want the same thing you do - sensible, pragmatic people in charge. The differences we have on whether those people should lean a little left or a little right are minor and I can appreciate yours and you can appreciate mine.
Unfortunately, moderates don't have jack shit in the way of clout these days, so I'm stuck where I surmise I'll be for the rest of my life politically - angry, with no constructive avenue for my venom.
As long as good people can't get elected because of absurd litmus tests from idiot single issue voters, we're fucked. Some professor explained why our multiple candidate system screws 70% of voters every time back in the 60s. I'll find it and post a link. It'll make you have one drink more than you might usually...
