Dissent. The Baby Jebus crowd is on pins and needles to overturn Roe v. Wade. If Bush doesn't give them their choice they'll throw the mother of all political tantrums and run a third-party candidate (Santorum?) in '08, thereby splitting the Repub vote. Hillary gets the drapes out of storage and hangs them again in the West Wing.

Gonzales also upset abortion foes during his confirmation hearing for attorney general when he described the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion as the "law of the land" and promised to enforce it.

When I was a child I may have had a problem with these concepts but long before I started posting to this board I understood the difference between these concepts. In the political world people rarely establish causation. Usually what they are really saying is that the correlation is so strong that one must assume causation. But that isn't really a definitive demonstration of causation. In my experience, on this board, facts that support ones own argument are considered causation, and facts that support somones elses argument are correlation.

Bad move. He's as good as it gets. Nobody Bush puts up will be any closer to supporting a woman's right to choosse than Gonzales. I've read the backgrounds of the options. The rest are grades of scary cocksuckers.
Bush is trying to sneak as moderate a candidate as he can in here. The left is tone deaf on this one. Frankly, I don't know why he's doing it myself. He doesn't have to. He could just go nuclear.

Reid has his list of Senators that he thinks would work:
Quote:
Seeking a possible consensus nominee, Reid recommended Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Mel Martinez of Florida, Mike DeWine of Ohio and Mike Crapo of Idaho.
Reid described them all as bright and able lawyers who would be strong additions to the nation's highest court.
"We have had approximately 10 members of the Supreme Court that came from the United States Senate over the years," Reid told reporters.
. . .
Another senator who has been mentioned as a possible Supreme Court nominee is Republican John Cornyn of Texas, a former member of the Texas Supreme Court and the only senator with appellate court experience.
Asked if Bush should consider Cornyn, Reid shrugged and said, "I've told you (the ones) I think he should consider."

And if he does overturn Roe, he'll galvanize the moderates and left and Hillary will get the drapes out of storage. Damned if you do...

This is the fundamental problem -- you consider any "discussion" to be "smears".

This is the other fundamental problem -- you seem to dispute, based on your use of "air quotes", that the memo even related to torture. (I.e., you deny reality.)

I wish the goddamned apocolypse and subsequent rapture would hurry up and get here so the baby jebus crowd could go on for their just reward and the rest of us could go on with our lives.

You can acknowledge that you believe this bullshit conspiracy right-wing jackoff fantasy, but not that you believe Clinton is a murderer because "you don't have all the evidence." You get a sperm sample and a videotape from Juanita?

I'm starting to feel like your stalker-sock, but c'mon. "Organized Left?" That's an oxymoron. Like Jumbo Shrimp, or (these days), moderate Republican.
