OK, you got me. We can import our culture after we nuke 'em, sort of like Japan.

We're dealing with wingnuts that don't represent the core of the muslim culture. Think fundamentalists christians, except that they're willing to die for their beliefs

Retirement? I should be so lucky...
I invested some money with a guy who's working on a revolutionary process for extracting DNA from a turd. PM me if you want in.

Actually, thats what AHS asked... "How are we going to deal with 'fundamentalist' Islam?"

Be more careful. When I first read this I thought you'd posted "BM me" like you were looking for samples. What's your address again?

Thanks, but we've already harvested enough shit for 30 years of research from the last three days of PenskePosts.

I put in about 15K a year. My wife does about 12.5K. We're projected to retire with about 2-3 million (YMMV) in our 401(k)s. Sounds pretty good to me, considering we'll both be getting pensions and social security, as well.

Yeah, the stock market could crash and we could lose it all, but I don't think it's any crazier than throwing a large chuck of cash into a commercial property venture.

And to Pony - your investments sound a little conservative to me, but I don't really know how old you are. If you're under 45, I would move to a more aggressive portfolio. I am 100% in stocks at this point. 70% in an S&P 500 index (really low expense ratio and can't really get much more diversified in terms of stocks), 15% in a small cap index fund and 15% in a foreign stock fund (slightly higher expense ratios, but I'm willing to pay it for the small cap and foreign exposure).

That being said, I'm only up 3% for the past 12 months rolling. Stocks have had a tough year, but you have to remember you're dollar-cost averaging, so it should pay off when the stock finally picks up (b/c you're buying more stock for your money now).

The key rule, as I'm sure you know, it to avoid trying to time the market with your 401(k). Pick an investment strategy and stick with it. Once you start getting closer to retirement (i.e. ~ 5-7 years away from it), move some of your investments into more stable investments during a market upswing and you should be golden.

I realize all of this talk violates sebby's "live in the now" rule of life, but that's his rule, not mine. I'm an optimist and hold out hope that I will be alive at 85 and, if I am, I'd like to have some income other than a part time job at the local 7-11.

And your response was "flood them with US culture" while Pony suggested the bomb.

People in the US can avoid US culture. Think of the off-the-grid folks, the home-schoolers, even the fundies who put blinders on their kids in wal-mart, so the most they can get is a hillary duff album.

You think fundamentalists living in tents in the desert are going to see a mcdonald's and drop their bombs to buy a big mac? And you think that's going to hurt recruiting? Frenchmen--never successful battlers, threw rocks and grenades through the windows of mcdonalds for years, and still resent imperialist american culture. why do you expect a portion of islam to be unable to do the same?

.
You think Soc. Sec. will be there for you?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahaah.

Anyway, 2-3M sounds good now, but that's more like 1M (today's money) in 30-40 years. Of course, that's 1M more than Sebby will have.

Agree re Pony. Also, haven't bonds been hit pretty badly because of rising interest rates? (I'm not sure because I'm too young to own bonds) That's going to put a damper on any gains.

That one little nuance. I like SD's approach but we should exterminate these subhuman devil worshipers when the opportunity prresents itself.

Look at all the problems in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Sidd, read what I posted, 17 is pushing the envelope, because, yes, 17 year olds are arguably women. Read some of the statutes related to this. They don't make the distinction between women and not yet women. It's not the 17 year old I am talking about its the 10 year old.
How many 10 year olds have received an abortion without their parents knowing of it?

Let's pray that the Brits don't roll over on Blair now - like the Spaniards did on Aznar.

The vast majority of Brits "rolled over" on Iraq about three years ago.
