(MoveOn's complaint filed with the FTC alleging that Fox News engages in deceptive trade practices by describing itself as "fair and balanced")
They should have brought this claim as a 17200 action in state court in San Francisco. Atticus and Sidd will explain.

If the GOP as presently constituted has a libertarian wing, may I politely suggest that the GOP mascot be changed to the emu, ostrich or kiwi?

You keep saying that, but I have yet to see you or anyone else point to something he said and show that he knew it was false.
From here

"The Senate Committee asked Wilson how he could have come to such grandiose conclusions without any information:

On at least two occasions [Wilson] admitted that he had no direct knowledge to support some of his claims and that he was drawing on either unrelated past experiences or no information at all.
For example, when asked how he "knew" that the Intelligence Community had rejected the possibility of a Niger-Iraq uranium deal, as he wrote in his book, he told Committee staff that his assertion may have involved "a little literary flair."

here "

There's plenty more in that article.

the October language was not at all the same as the 16 Words, and was struck for being overly specific. In fact, the CIA suggested language (for a never-published October paper) very similar to the 16 Words. That said, in between there are some rally points for the Administration critics.

It does, it's comprised of Rudy, Arnold, and Club. Slave is was a member too, but he hasn't paid his 2004 dues, so his membership has been suspended.

Wait a second. Saying something based on unrelated past experiences or without any information at all is a lie, but Bush wasn't lying when he said Iraq had WMD? I guess you're falling back on the notion that Wilson is smarter than Bush, huh?

  • On Friday, September 6, Franks and Rumsfeld briefed the president and the NSC on the latest war planning. . . . General Franks had something important to add. "Mr. President," he said, "we've been looking for Scud missiles and other weapons of mass destruction for ten years and haven't found any yet, so I can't tell you that I know that there are any specific weapons anywhere. I haven't seen Scud one."

Plan of Attack 173
  • [On Saturday, September 7,] Blair and Bush took questions from reporters. They said they were committed to ending Saddam's threat one and for all. How or when went unanswered. Bush asserted unequivocally, "Saddam Hussein possesses weapons of mass destruction."

Plan of Attack 178

Does one claim preclude the other? And Atticus and Sidd are lawyers?

Free Iraq!

Well, it looks like the Iraqis are teaching Bush's boys a little bit about freedom of the press.

Now if they could just block those foreign owned radio stations (like Voice of America) from using their airwaves, they'll have freedom of the press just like we do!

Caught the damn thing before dtb could nab me!

It's noble of you to continue to defend the White House on this one, but Tenet has already said that the 16 words shouldn't have been in the speech. You also seem to be missing that the CIA suggested referring to "Africa" instead of "Niger."

And in a dispute over who got facts right between Safire and just about anyone else, I'm taking just about anyone else. Safire has been coasting for a while, and he's figured out that it's easier just to phrase things in a way that keep him from getting busted for his asides.

no argument on Safire (or anyone else at the NYT for that matter)

Tenet already said that the 16 words shouldn't have been in the speech and that he simply failed to read the speech. Why is this so hard?

I (an many commentators, including liberal commentators) believe that the WH overreacted to all the critisism and just wanted to put the matter behind them.
