In that vacuum of talent, we see things like W, Clinton and Bush I elected. None of them are worthy of the title they held. And what did they run against? John Fucking Kerry? Al Gore?

DAN QUAYLE???

Until we grow the fuck up in this counttry and act like adults about sex and personal mores, we're going to get more and more shit in the Oval Office. Decent, intelligent people tend to experiment a bit in life, and they make mistakes, and they have moral shortcomings. Until we address those shortcoming as a normal, excusable human foibles, we'll only get the idiots the religious right will tolerate.

I don't want to sound like some Berkeley douchebag, but WTF is wrong with this nation? We just excused gunmakers from lawsuits. We tolerate insane violence in our media. We have scumbags stealing our tax money for polictical gain (I hope Ted Stevens loses his sight for that goddamned bridge to nowhere). Yet we're debating whether abortion should be legal, and whther there's moral deficit on the Left?

There's a huge deficit in this country we ought to deal with before our economic or moral deficits, and thats the deficit of fucking brains in the political arena. Until we have some honest discourse, instead of sumbags who play to their idiot constituents, we'll never get anywhere. I hate to say it, but a temporary monarchy run by practical, sensible thinkers would be a very nice thing right now.

Off with the heads of all the idiots (about half the country).
Maybe you have said this before, but who do you think, among the politicians in this country, is a worthy candidate?

By the way, OMSOB was wondering about you on infirm the other day.

Sebby, I am surprised a feminist like you is so ignorant of what you are discussing. Rape and sexual abuse/harassment are not crimes of sex. They are crimes of violence and/or abuse of power via an non-consensual sexual act. Way to cheapen the discourse and degrade the plight of millions of women.

You really are off base to say that about George HW Bush.

He had a political tin ear, and made a couple big mistakes (i.e. Quayle and the "read my lips" pledge) -- but he was surely a talented and competent man, and a reasonably good President.

I would quibble with the use of the word "good". Maybe "reasonably satisfactory"?, but otherwise, despite my personal dislike, I agree.

Perhaps we will soon sing kumbayah together S_A_M.....

I'd elect Rudy. I'd elect McCain. Hagel is also good.

Bush I was a smart guy who did next to nothing. Compared to the visionary he followed, he wasn't shit.*

* I'm not saying I agreed with everything Reagan did, but he was a visionary, and he did achieve some important things in office and change the country.

Didn't say that . . although wasn't Bob Packwood an (R)? What did you mean by "any"?

My point was this -- It is an unfortunate (but true) fact that a lamentably high percentage of men in this country could be credibly accused of sexual assault and/or rape if you look closely enough and far enough back in their history (especially the young and/or drunken college days).

I will take you at your word that this is not an issue for you, as you were chased during college.

S_A_M

That doesn't diminish the harm of it, or make it right.

He's mainly gone - pokes back in every month or so. He's left the law, gone to Asia, teaching, happier-sounding than you would believe.

I'll pass on the message, though.

Who said, Camille Paglia?

What's the CW, reproductive strategy? (this wouldn't apply to Clinton, he was sterile, from a bout of childhood mumps.)
