Wow, that sounds amazing. Remind me to make it next year when I'm no longer supporting a dairy-intolerant Klingon.

Consumer Reports for high-end appliances

Kitchen upgrade time.

I usually rely on Consumer Reports to get me started on what appliances to consider and which ones to avoid. But they don't rate the nicer (er, unreasonable overpriced) appliances. Are there any magazines or websites that have research about products like subzero, viking, thermador, etc.?

I don't know. But I'd give my left breast for a Viking six-burner.

I'm told that Vikings melt ordinary cookware. Think what it would do to your breast. No offense.

I have to buy a refrigerator. Any suggestions? It does not need to make ice, dispense water or whistle The Star Spangled Banner while distilling a tropical fruit sorbet. It should be stainless steel and energy efficient.

Refrigerator? GE. Why would you do anything else? I mean, unless you were NFH.

Is there a refrigerator that would unequivocally establish my total superiority the minute guests enter the kitchen?

It's no longer about the frig but instead about the cabinetry. Get any old built-in for $6 or $7K and have a cabinet maker do a custom Indian rosewood and brazilwood inlay on mahogony, and your guests will know they are in the presence of a big leaguer when you bring them into the kitchen. Just make sure the staff keeps that wood buffed and oiled.

I have no idea. I'm actually a cook. I am all about function over form.

And for cooks, total superiority is definitely established by the stove.

You should have just PM'd me. Subzero. No question. You won't be able to put your little magnet collection on there, but SubZero. Get the matching wine fridge for maximum effect.

I'd look here. If they don't answer your question, post it and you'll get plenty of feedback. Many of the best professional cooks in America post there regularly.

Thanks--that looks very promising. Do they offer unsolicited fellatio there, too?

As a general rule, the only sausage they're interested in is the kind that gets grilled, poached sous vide or is made, cured, and smoked at home.
