For some reason, it got stuck in my head that heroin was a German issue and no one outside Germany used heroin. This was despite much evidence to the contrary, and of course I appreciated at some level that people in other countries used heroin, but what was stuck in my brain was unfortunately stuck in my brain.
So when I was 19 or so, and this girl told me that her boyfriend had a heroin problem, one of the first things I asked was "Oh, is he German?" She was not expecting that question.

From the anti-drug films in elementary school, I learned that all heroin addicts are black people. Are there a lot of African-Americans in Germany?
