Well then, she should be totally safe within the general population. At least in that way.

I read this in SFGate's Hilton story:

"No! No! No!" Jake Byrd of Chino screamed as a court spokesman delivered the news to reporters outside court.

So I thought to myself, what a loser, and decided I would like to know more about Jake Byrd of Chino.

Here's what Google turns up:
  • Anthony ("Tony") Barbieri is an American comedy writer whose work has appeared on television programs such as Crank Yankers and the Jimmy Kimmel Live show.

Born in Framingham, Massachusetts, his long-running Monroe series has appeared in more than 100 issues of Mad Magazine.

    Jake Byrd

On the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, one of the things Barbieri is best known for is insinuating himself into major news stories, as a fictitious character. Among other names, he has called himself Jake Byrd when doing this. He has successfully fooled major media outlets, including The New York Times and Court TV.

One of his most recent famous stunts was posing as an obsessed fan at the 2005 trial of Michael Jackson. During the arraignment of Michael Jackson he fooled The New York Times. During jury deliberations, he similarly fooled Court TV, as the same character, with the same back story ([1]). The Jake Byrd character ostensibly works in a pet store in southern California.

He was heard screaming "No, No, No, No!" at the Paris Hilton News conference, when Paris Hilton was sent back to Jail for driving on a suspended License, on June 8th, 2007 and was referred to in news reports (without any mention of the fact that he was "performing") ([2]).
Apparently he's a huge fan of TomKat and Suri too.

More importantly, she gets some HIPAA privacy protection on her medical condition at USC. That's not as likely in county lockup.
Hilton has, in fact, been taken to the Twin Towers medical facility, not USC.

Twin Towers consists of two towers, a medical services building, and the Los Angeles County Medical Center Jail Ward. The towers, which have been constructed using an efficient Panoptic design, to house maximum security inmates and a large portion of the county's mental health inmates. The Medical Services Building provides inpatient housing for inmates with various levels of acute medical and mental health needs.

That's from WWTDD, but I think he got it from TMZ.

sopranos

predictions?

The early stuff about Meadow or AJ moving into the life seems really far fetched now. I'm betting on major arrests for the NY guys with Tony getting smei-retired ala Carmine Jr. The hour isn't enough for a real war, and the only other outcome is too sad.

Think what this will do for her recording career. Some of the best music has been written in prison.

Hmmm... that changes the HIPAA analysis somewhat. I wonder how they get paid. I'll have to ask a colleague at the prison hosptial down in Galveston if the prison wards are part of the covered entity or not....

Fascinating.*

*To me and maybe a handful other geeky health care attorneys. Though I imagine a hell of a lot of journalists care in some way.

How would a medical facility, even if within the prison system, not be a covered entity? Granted, I never had to research this type of thing at all. The most we had to deal with was clients with on-site clinics with doctors paid by the company (not contracted).
