I was in the delivery room with my SIL when my nephew was born. My brother stayed with their small daughter during the delivery. Plus I think he lost points when my SIL was in labor with the daughter and my brother compared the experience to watching calving at a dairy farm.
I was up at her head, like Sebby with his wife, so I didn't see much that was disturbing. The most disturbing thing was the placenta. I never imagined that it would look like an organ and require its own delivery.
That being said, I've had sex many times since my nephew was born!!

What's it like to not be able to control the drug/drunk thing?
I mean, I drink. I'll always drink. And I have a history of alcoholism in my family. And I've enjoyed the drugs. And intend to continue doing so reasonably, recreationally.
But I've never had those repeated moments where I got up in the morning and said "whoa, I should go have a drink" or "I'd really like a line." Or even a cigarette.
Once you've done a bunch of anything, it kind of gets regular and lessens the buzz, and if the buzz is the most important thing, wouldn't you want to preserve it? I specifically don't become an alcoholic because doing so would probably mean I couldn't drink anymore, which is a thought I couldn't bear.

Just as an FYI along these lines, Knocked Up is probably not a really good date movie.

Neither of you are supposed to be in a relationship, let alone in a relationship with each other (as recovering addicts), yet, there you are. He fixed it so that he was in a tight spot when he knew his lease was expiring to basically force you to let him move in with you. After a few months of living together, he wants kids. Are you kidding? You hate animals and you just bought the most annoying dog (for someone who hates animals) in the world.
Seriously, take two huge steps backwards.

Can you go review sebby's crap about alcoholism below and work on him too? Or is he past hope?

What if one wants to pair-bond, but not breed, with the date? Does that change the analysis?

We've already had the boarding school discussion. If he's smart and I have the cash, he's going. I look at teenage kids and shudder. They're so gawky and annoying. I listen to them in the grocery store, with their moodiness and whining and shit and wonder why my parents didn't beat me when I was that age. They're also fucking ugly as shit. Nothing's more awkward and ugly than a 14 year old boy. Acned, with that cracking voice. Yecch. Send it away... Ship me back the finished model when its 18. Then send it away again.

Depends on how your date feels about a) the not breeding part not going quite as well as hoped, and b) viewing childbirth a la The Miracle of Life.

I don't want work. I'm wondering what it feels like to need work.
I've always been fascinated with addiction. I never got addicted to anything and wonder what the difference between binging and addiction is.

Except that this attitude will wear off of both of you and he'll call you and say that he's going to be late and ask you to feed and walk the dog and it will seem unreasonable to say no. And then you'll be at the store and he'll ask you to buy food. And it will continue like this until you guys are splitting the responsibility (just like how he has transformed his temporary living situation into one where you are actually talking about having kids).

Sorry. I will stop lecturing you now.

She just has to tell him firmly, he's not getting a baby if he can't show that he's responsible with the puppy.

Yeah, you are right. Rest assured that I will NOT have kids right now though. At least THAT I will not fuck up.

I thought about it, but sebby knows what sebby knows. We'd be talking about Philly mouthbreathers after like two posts and I'd be all confused.
But if I were working on him I would say: I'm not an alcoholic, so I don't know, but I would imagine for alcoholics it's not "about the buzz." Your body becomes dependent on alcohol independent of the buzz. And an alcoholic's body needs what an alcoholic's body needs.
I might also say that there are levels of alcoholism. There is lying in the street, thrown my life away and there is need a drink in the morning to get through the day and there is really love alcohol and the buzz and drink way too often. I'm sure there are others, but just because you don't need a drink in the morning doesn't mean you are not an alcoholic.

What if I get excited after a run b/c I get to have a drink? I definintely look forward to a post-exercise drink. But, during the week, I rarely have more than 2. Or 12.
