I have a friend who would potentially split the boat/slip with me. So even if I can't sell it at all, I'm only out $4k (excluding maintenance fees, etc.)
I have cleaned/maintained smaller boats my entire life. We had an 18' deck boat growing up that was essentially mine when I was 16 (after its engine was rebuilt b/c I, at the age of 15, filled the old 2-cycle engine up with just gas - oops! Sorry, dad. You never fail to bring that up, though).

I'm not sure what the slip fees will be in ten years when your place in line for a slip at Jackson Harbor comes up.

You can buy it by the case, and pour it in your face.

I knew you'd catch it. You win a Plymouth and tonic (they're importing it from the UK again, you know).

Not really. You didn't destroy joy regarding actual events, or point out that a current contemplation of future happiness is futile and even stupid. At worst you made her feel a little silly, but since she has already copped to having referred to her husband as "Coltrane" when they were dating, and the daddy/husband thing has been done to death (Electra, anyone?), I have to opine that this is not your best effort.

I love, love, love to sail. The Girl Scouts had a sailing camp in an old turn of the century mansion (complete with ghost) on Galveston Bay about when I was a kid*. The two weeks that I spent there every summer were my favorite of the year. I think it cost my parents something like $300 to get rid of me for fourteen days. I thought it was an exorbitant price and I was an angel in the month or so leading up to camp.
Every now and then I go over to http://www.offshore-sailing.com/ and fantasize about getting a barefoot cruising certification and taking off.
I suppose I could just do the local version... http://www.bayareasailing.com/
*The camp is still there but they tore down the mansion because they couldn't afford the upkeep. I don't think I could bear to walk on the property if the mansion is gone.

2. I could believe in the conference finals Game 2. if I were Lebron, I'd spend the off season finding old press conferences from Jackson the day after every game the MJ Bulls lost in the finals, or even Conference finals. I'd give it to Coach, and say "either work up a good 'blame the refs' act, or clean up the resume."

Uh, if you were embarrassed by your oh-so-obvious crush on the horse-hung Coltrane. I didn't say it would, I was saying that would be the best he could possibly hope for from his weak effort.
I think he was trying on that one -- he should trust in his evil-hearted instincts to deliver the crushing blows when he's not even paying attention. Maybe start wearing ladies' garters under his Dockers?

Ale 8 is outstanding. I don't really like bourbon, but mix it up with Ale 8 and I'm in.

It's counter-intuitive, but maybe you should take some sailing classes and make sure that you love it before you buy a sailboat. When I lived in DC, there were several sailing schools on the Chesapeake where you could learn to sail 20-25' boats on weekends. Lake Michigan should have the same I would think. Is there some hurry to buy a boat before you know how to use it? You're the ABBAKiss of boat ownership?

Flower. And I think even in space, where it's a term of art, black hole is two words.
