My divorcing friend is coming over for dinner tomorrow night. I was thinking about making a cake or cupcakes. Good idea? (TM ncs's bar review prof)
Thanks for all the ideas for her. She found them amusing and seems to be interested in the getting-drunk-and-laid model.

And they are playing them to people who may not have really even liked the music back in the 70s and 80s, but through the comfort of familiarity and the soothing of nostalgia, have grown to like these songs, or at least have convinced themselves that they do. On the other hand, the fact that so many new bands are so openly derivative of bands of the 70s and 80s may drive older listeners, who actually experienced these bands when they were new, to go back and listen with fresh ears to the music of their youth. These listereners may not have even appreciated this music at the time, but they now have grown to enjoy it, in part due to the recognition that this music remains influential to newer generations of musicians.

I went back and listened to Janis today--who wasn't of my youth, because she was dead then--but I listened to her in my youth a lot. I still love her. I don't know if anyone is actually derivative of her, but Lucinda Williams seems to try.
Her performance of Ball and Chain at Monterey (40th anniversary this week) is one of my favorites.
I recommend everyone go back and listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb4t0Mxq3J4

Oh if only a highly respected semi-retired sports announcer could tell the tale set to a catchy 70's tune. Maybe "Summer in the City."

Gatorade is the raging tech-transfer success story of the University of Florida. It was developed by a bunch of second rate Gator "scientists" hanging out in the football stadium locker rooms checking out the football player's sweat in the sultry Florida heat.
Yes, a bunch of geeks rubbing down the jocks, all for science.

Anybody have strong feelings one way or another about Lucero?
|
I am listening to Lucero for the first time on MySpace and, as yet, I have no strong feelings one way or another. My strongest feeling is a bit of puzzlement that they seem to be playing at a lot of skate parks, and that they are playing at a festival with Bad Brains at Asbury Park. Both of those things make me more favorably inclined toward them.

Oh, you're too kind. But I can't take the entire credit, it was a team effort, and whoever thought about bringing those miner helmets was the true hero. Oh, and I think I lost my watch, so if you find it, please FedEx it back, thanks.

It's common international law that the first person to post their flag gets bragging and naming rights. I told you not to bring such a heavy pack and a dog team, but nooooo.

"I Against I." Never gets old. Could have been done yesterday and would still sound mind-blowing.

Buy Paul Butterfield's "East West Live." Shitty sound, but the Egyptian sounding guitar solos in it are nuts.

I think it is the fact that you are so obviously wanting her to be happy that makes her happy. Which should usually be the case. Yay! Less unhappy people!

Are you sure the Albanians did not take it?
