Why do you think they call it dope?

White Rabbit just came up on the iPod and it got me thinking, what is the best "Don't take drugs" movie. Of course the two that come to mind are go Ask Alice, and Maybe I'll Come Home in the Spring. I think the dirty little sister pushed MICHITS to the top for me, but it is close.

Thanks for reminding me. It's now in itunes.
Is it? I've been looking as long as Coltrane's been alive.

Requiem for a Dream (I'm not sure that's the exact title, but the one with Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly).

I meant true life stories. And Requiem was a pro-drug movie. I'm looking forward to all the pills you can get when you're old.

Britney Spears vs "Replaced Texan" next

Roundup of Doe vs. Ciolli postings. Two anonymous Yale students are suing that kid who got his offer resinded because he was the "educational director" of Auto Admit.

But if I really say it, the radio won't play it.

Does taxwonk know all the lyrics to Allen O'Day's "Undercover Angel"? I didn't think so.

Trainspotting? For me, it is Less Than Zero, but then I'm a fan of 80's kitsch.

Drugstore Cowboy. Or maybe the Eric Stoltz scene in Pulp Fiction.

I too love Less than Zero although it is shockingly untrue to the book. Which I also love. "People are afraid to merge on freeways in Los Angeles" has to be one of the best first lines in any novel.

Wine doesn't seem to explain Hank's incoherence.

Not even boxed wine? All this time, I've been presuming that we've been witnesses to the long-term degenerative properties of Franzia.

"Julian gives good head. And is dead."

When I was young, I guess about 12 or so, I saw a movie called Christiane F, which was about a German heroin addict. For some reason, it got stuck in my head that heroin was a German issue and no one outside Germany used heroin. This was despite much evidence to the contrary, and of course I appreciated at some level that people in other countries used heroin, but what was stuck in my brain was unfortunately stuck in my brain.

So when I was 19 or so, and this girl told me that her boyfriend had a heroin problem, one of the first things I asked was "Oh, is he German?" She was not expecting that question.

2. And though it isn't technically a "drug" of the definition Hank meant (illegal, I assume), "Leaving Las Vegas." It was also a great accidental comedy. The scenes where he's fucked up and falling down or talking into the wrong end of the phone are really funny in a dark way. The scene with Richard Lewis in the restautrant is also pretty amazing.
