I do not think it is even remotely important that you or anyone else should know this.

Thank you. As I am sure you recall, because it is in my file, English is not my first language, and it is good I learn these things.

It's nice to see you all sweetness and light, after months of moody darkness. Did the doctor finally write you script for Cialis?

I've been a lot happier since I joined the crust punk scene.

if you and your new crust friends ran into your old friends walking along the street, would you do a look away, or is it cool with your new friends that you were grindcore up until last month? Of course, the scene change before that you wouldn't need do a look away because your old shoe gaze friends wouldn't see you.

Both relate to his stay in a hotel in Detroit. The woman at the check in counter greeted him by saying, "How may I be of assistance?" That led to him telling us that she simply should have asked him, "How may I help you?" She then noted something about the "garahhh," which, she explained, was the proper way to pronounce "garage." She learned that from her manager, who had spent time in France. I don't recall whether Garner went on a diatribe with her as to why that was incorrect, or just us. I do recall that being one of the launching points for his discussion of some book about class in America, how we should not read it (wink, wink), and how people in lower social classes, in their efforts to use big words so that they will appear as if they are from a higher social class, often mangle grammar and syntax.

Oh no, there's no tension. I think the URL for this dude's MySpace page says it all:

I do not recall either story. But he's got a million of them. The one that actually made me laugh was when he noted that, until a recent interview with David Foster Wallace, Garner had never met or even communicated with DFW, and that therefore DFW's earlier statement that "Bryan Garner must have been repeatedly and savagely wedgied as a child" had no basis.
I think Garner would want you to hyphenate "check-in."

Whether you wanted it to be or not, this is probably helpful. To all the wrong people of course, but still.
And this just in, Jimmy Kimmel has emergency appendix surgery. As opposed to voluntary appendix surgery.
For those of you who watch (anyone?) the rest of the week's shows will be cancelled.

I read that last word as "crispier".
I must be hungry.

Awhile ago a do-gooder woman and her boyfriend opened a store in a pretty bombed out part of detroit. the store got popular and she started doing events to bring people into the neighborhood. she ran races as an example. the t-shirts from the races had the saying "Say Nice Things About Detroit!"
anyway, speaking of correcting service people, when I lived in arlington I went into the hoJo's on Jeff Davis Blvd. for lunch wearing such a shirt. the manager/greeter looks at me and says "say nice things about detroit? can't think of any." so I go "how about the flunkies at the Howard Johnson's don't insult their customers." you know to bring him down to his place.
although if he were from Detroit i guess he could say it, like how black people can say N------.

When I wrote a brief shortly after taking Garner's class, I put all of the citations in footnotes. Partners were not amused.

That is a scary picture of him. The good news (for him) is that if it was the appendix-ruptured sort of appendectomy, I bet he'll lose that double chin! Without exercising, even. Crash diet.

I was surprised to see that his fervor for this cause is unabated after so many years. It's cute.
