The trouble with chick lit is that some of it is genuinely funny and not bad and some of it is Stephanie Klein.* When you pick up the book, you don't know what you are going to get. That is generally why I tend to avoid it.

*my bf went out on a date with her. He said that words can't begin to describe how horrible it was. And no sex.

I don't know who Stephanie Klein is. I love love love Jennifer Crusie, who may or may not really be chicklit, and I like Jane Green and a couple others. I usually check to see whether they have more than one book out -- if they seem to have more than one, I think it is less likely to suck. Or I read a portion in the store.

Yep, I read it, but it's still a good recommendation. I like True Crime novels that are well-written and don't just wallow in disgusting details. In Cold Blood set a high standard and it's a shame how many truly awful true crime books have been written since.
I recall enjoying this - http://www.amazon.com/Mormon-Murders.../dp/0451401522 - while learning everything you ever wanted to know about the history of the Mormon Church, and more.

I prefer this one: http://www.amazon.com/Salamander-Sto...e=UTF8&s=books

All the same dirt, without the shocked tone.

Paigow Princess has always been one of my favorite comic writers. Is that chicklit?

YouTube

SAO PAULO, Brazil - A Brazilian judge has ordered YouTube to find a way to stop Brazilians from viewing steamy footage of supermodel Daniela Cicarelli and her boyfriend on the highly trafficked video-sharing site, court officials said Thursday.

Cicarelli is one of Brazil's best-known models. She hosts a show on Brazilian MTV and was previously engaged to Brazilian soccer great Ronaldo, who plays for the famed Real Madrid team of Spain.

The judge said YouTube must find a way to use filters so the clip stops popping up in Brazil on the site owned by Google Inc. Lawyer Rubens Decousseau Tilkian, who represents Cicarelli's boyfriend, said YouTube had not gone far enough to prevent access to the clip because people keep posting it using different names for the video.

How many people believe that a lawsuit reduced the number of searches for this video?

Great!!!! Friday Poll!!!!

Which sock has said more funny things, Adder or Paigow?

"Laughing at them" funny things don't count. Also, you need to not negative count for stuff that bothered you.

I prefer fiction mysteries and thrillers.
Stay tuned, the self-proclaimed master of detective fiction, James Ellroy plans to return later this year with his stocato prose. It'll be the 3rd volume of his political trilogy of the late 60's / early 70's.

Don't bother with ellroy's pre-political stuff (Black Dahlia, killer on the road, etc). It lags, except for LA Confidential (and White Jazz, if you are OK with occasional stream of conciousness).

Also, ellroy's memoir regarding his investigation of his mother's murder is good.

Have you read Dorothy Sayers, PD James, or Laurie King? King's series on Sherlock and Mary Holmes is good.
You like noir and boston: Try Flood's Bag Men.

See the movie before you read Devil in a Blue Dress. Denzel Washington, Don Cheadle, and Tom Sizemore kick ass in that movie.
