If only he were actually sexy. I'm hoping he has another bad day. Because the Bears fans I know are really questioning his ability.

I'm really sorry for your loss, but it seems like losing Donovan McNabb was the best thing to happen to the Eagles in a long time. Who knew that Jeff Garcia had it in him?
The Philly fans deserved him to bomb for them after they tried to boo him off the field in his second game when he was getting clobbered (literally, I mean, because the line wasn't protecting him). He should have packed up his toys and gone home and let them have the third-stringer for the rest of the season.

I think it is at least 50-50 that Griese gets the start this weekend.

Pree-cisely. Put even better by Bill Simmons:
  • Can anyone else feel Manning slowly moving into that "Marino in the mid-'90s" portion of his career? He has the crappy defense, the lack of a third receiver, the mediocre running game and the overrated coach, as well as the gaudy stats ... all he's missing is the bulky knee brace, the perpetual scowl and the Juan Epstein afro. We're about 12 years away from Peyton working on one of the Sunday pregame shows and bristling every time some inferior ex-QB/co-host (like Pennington or Delhomme) busts his chops about never winning a Super Bowl. And frankly, I can't wait.

I hate the Cowboys. Hate them. Yet I felt bad for Romo. Awful way to end his season. If I were his friend, I would note for him that even if they had made the 3, there was enough time left for Seattle to take it down the field and win with a field goal.

The last 5 minutes of that game was completely bizarre. Strangest one in quite some time. I'm glad I had no vested interest in either of those teams.

I'm also glad the Giants are out (although the thought of no more Tiki Barber is a bit hard to take). Hopefully the last half of the season costs Coughlin his job. My main Giants buddy has vowed to boycott the Giants next season if Coughlin stays.

That said, I'm a huge Saints fan this week. We actually had idiotic Eagles fans singing some fight song by us at the sports bar yesterday. Who does that? It was not an Eagles bar, and they had Giants fans on three sides of them. I started hoping that we would win solely so that we could sing it back to them on their way out the door. They started in with the singing after the first touchdown, when they merely had tied the game.
Very brief thoughts on football -

So satisfying to see the Cowboys lose in such a spectacular fashion. As a Giants fan, I have to hate them. But I also hate them for being "America's Team", the team from somewhere else that the whole country is supposed to get behind. Maybe that's why I hate the Yankees too.

I'm torn about the Giants. I wish the team had won, but I am glad that Coughlin lost. I missed most of the game yesterday, but according to a friend they showed clips of Tiki getting in Coughlin's face and Shockey lifting up Coughlin's headset to give him an earful. My brother has been boycotting the Giants all year because of Coughlin.

I missed Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday (but have discovered that Canadian conference rooms tend to have really heavy insulating curtains at the windows), but did get back to the hotel room in time to catch the ESPN Classic re-airing of the OU Boise State game. Wow.

No Mike Brown and no Tommie Harris = so-so defense.

I know that there are other rivalries -- but still. They seem to attract such virulent hatred from so many quarters. Not to say it's not deserved -- it just worries me, on some level, that we pay them so much attention.

Note: I liked the Cowboys as a kid but I think that had more to do with the cheerleaders, whose photos graced my older brother's Playboy collection.
Well that, and Troy Aikman was HOT.

Plus, I would take Peyton Manning in a heartbeat. That guy can run a game. He rarely makes a bad decisions unlike, say, Matt Hasslebeck.

I don't find the Elway-fawning to be quite as intense. Maybe that's because, as I remember it, he wasn't portrayed as the Best QB In The NFL while he was playing.

Or maybe it's because I live in SF, where the only number you connect with Elway is 55-10.

I'm not a gambler, but those sound like pretty good odds.

I kept going back and forth on who I was rooting for. I have a crush on Tiki Barber, but I also really like Brian Westbrook, who kicked the shit out of the Texans early this season. The Giants got a slight edge in support after that late hit/personal foul somewhere in the second quarter. It seemed that the Eagles got away with something there.

It was a really good game, especially after watching the Patriots / Jets blowout earlier.
For the record, Tiki Barber is incredibly handsome and personable in person.

I watched Griese in the game against the Packers. While I thought he was an improvement for awhile, he ended up making the same mistakes that Grossman would have. I'm not sure who I'd rather have - a guy whose rust is so thick he can't see colors on a jersey, or a guy who just doesn't seem to look like he's paying attention.

Now, so far, Romo is ahead 1-0 on season-ending mistakes, but I wouldn't put it past Rex to make two bigger mistakes against Seattle. And then maybe the Bears' defense will give him a chance to make more mistakes in the finals.
I'm trying to determine what is worse, a critical game ending mistake or having games with passer ratings of 1.5 and 0.0. Kind of a critical game ending mistake stretched over the course of an entire game.

Thank you for summarizing so nicely why I hate the Patriots. It sucks that they keep going far in the playoffs every year. I've found that their pearls of tactical wisdom are pathetic.

Ironweed really nailed what makes the Patriots different. Thank God that other football teams don't have retarded fans who drag their girlfriends to bars where they annoy other people while drinking Miller Lite.
