Uneducated? Do children not watch football with their parents in New England? Texas children begin their football education shortly after birth.

Mine didn't. I started late in life, when I married. Still don't fully understand the game, and stand at a defecit.

Boston is a very insulated and sheltered place. Most adult football fans there grew up without televisions, radios, or other means of staying connected with the outside world. It is this characteristic that leads to the blithe street-naivete one finds among the working class residents of Boston and its inner-ring suburbs.

No. It really isn't the same. Favre just ain't that great anymore. And when he throws 5 interceptions in a game, they kill themselves bending over backwards to make excuses for him. Brady has won a bunch of Superbowls and actually has done little to no wrong. With Elway, I remember them sucking his dick, but constantly bringing up his pre-draft tantrum and inability to get along with his coaches. Manning is constantly questioned about his inability to win the big one. Favre, it seems from listening to every single football analyst, can do no wrong. In my opinion, over the last two years (at least), he's pretty much been screwing the Packers for his own selfish purposes and using the fans and the media to do it. At the absolute very least, his unwillingness to help the younger quarterbacks with anything is fucked up. And, as a Packers fan (and the Packers will exist after Favre finally moves the fuck on), I would think you'd want your team leader to exert some effort helping the team in situations that won't benefit him directly.

Warts and all, that guy has done more than anyone else in the past 50 years to actually make you feel pretty good to be from Green Bay. He is tough, plays hard, respects other players and has fun.
Okay. That's great. But when he acts like an asshole, he should get treated like an asshole. And I forget where his family lived during Katrina, but there were many players with family members in actual danger and all we got was concern over what Favre's fucking family was coping with.

The guy has a lifetime pass with nearly everyone in Wisconsin, and personally I am having a hard time imagining the Packers or the NFL without the guy. I may prefer he make different decisions but he is what he is, and he has never said otherwise.
That is great for you and everyone from Wisconsin. But I'm done with him (as are many, many people outside of Wisconsin) and would love to imagine the NFL without him.

It breaks my heart that an entire region of the country doesn't have the ability to participate articulately in debates about whether "establishing the run" is cover for a bad quarterback or an effort to keep a defense on its toes.

I think a not-for-profit needs to be started, perhaps with the support of the United Way, to educate the neglected New Englanders on football.
