First mindless, pointless post of the day
Eventually -- finally -- I got around to watching Elf and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Elf was for the Gaplets over the holiday, so we watched it. Again. And again. And again. On the upside, I can now deconstruct Buddy's burp like it was the Zapruder film.
And THHGttG helped satisfy my Inner Geek.
But my real surprise was encountering this girl in each movie.
Zooey Deschanel.
Where on earth did she come from? What an adorable young lady.
link so as not to fuck up the margins
Carry on.

Is It Bad When You Develop A Drug Addiction To Get Press?

You are in luck! I suspect you will soon find yourself hobnobbing with the bestonlinepharmasy. What an opportunity to develop further drug additions.
And welcome, bestonlinepharmasy2. Perhaps you will also introduce your friend, bestonlinepharmasy1.

Don't tell str8.
San Franciscan hoodlums pummeled Yale a cappela singing group on New Year's Eve. I've often had the desire to do this to people singing a cappela, but I've never acted on it.

there was a spot on my local radio station this morning about how the pisco sour is the new mojito. Will they ever learn?

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

Are you, would you pay $500 for a phone? And I am a devoted IPod user....and I recognize the value in combining all into one device but that seems a little steep. although I am transfixed by its look.

Interesting. The stock tanked 3% simply because Jobs covered the company's current accomplishments and introduced iTV for the first 20 minutes (12:20-12:40) before announcing the iphone.

I would buy one in a heartbeat (I know. Shocking.) But there's no way I'm switching to Cingular.

You probably missed it, but I posted an article in December from our local paper declaring the Pisco Sour the new Mojito. If these articles/radio spots had occurred only a year or two after I had announced the switch, I perhaps would have felt validated. But now I just feel sad and alone.

Anyone heard anything about this booK?
After reading this, I'm intrigued. I love huge novels.

you are our resident art/film/literature critic. Cool. I still do not have the energy to attempt Pynchon but I will eventually....

My last huge novel was Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norell. It took me a few months to recover.
ETA: She has a new set of short stories out set in the same universe.

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time.
So, I was channel-surfing last night, and my run through the HBOs/Showtimes/Starz numbers stopped abruptly when I saw Scarlett Johanssons's panty-covered ass.
I was reminded that, in addition to the eye-candy at the beginning, Lost in Translation really is a wonderfully sad and delightful movie. And that Scarlett really is a fine actress.
And I was left wondering how Sofia Coppola could go from writing this flick, and coaxing such a fine and restrained performance of middle aged angst and alienation from Bill Murray, to shooting Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette trying on Manolos while "I Want Candy" plays in the background.
