AoN, I just went to a bagel shop for lunch, ordered a bagel with lox, and got a blank stare in return. A bagel with what?
After much back and forth, I finally figured out that I needed to order a bagel sandwich with wasabi smoked salmon (because they didn't know what lox was) and appropriate fixings. In response to my request for "cream cheese" they said held up a yellow square and said "cheddar"?
They never figured out what capers were, and so I went caperless.

I am in shock. Wow. How can they NOT know what lox is? I guess you'd short-circuit them if you asked for a schmear.

I am at work. And someone sent an email to all referring to the "holiday" (quotation marks in original). Heh.

I'm working from home today. Three cheers for 7am conference calls in your jammies! Hip, hip, aww fuck it.
No OT here and no big end of year lawyer bonus either.
I need another job.

I take it you weren't in Brookline.
(Aren't you in Beantown too?)

I no longer fall under the paralegal umbrella. I'm one of the few professionals caught between attorney and staff.

Yes, in Beantown, too.
Brookline may be a short drive away but it is very, very far in spirit. How can a bagel shop not understand bagel and lox?

Do they have you as some type of law clerk? that is horrible. I hope they increased your base for you. Too bad they couldn't restructure your bonus structure to reflect that for you.

I think you should reply to all and remind everyone that Robert E. Lee day should be treated with more respect.

My base is pretty good. The bonii structure leaves a lot to be desired.
Clearly, I need to recruit some colleagues and start posting about money on an anonymous chat board.

That is good. They should do "something" for you in that regard.
My base is pretty good also, but I do depend on OT to make some extra cash. For once in my life I am at peace with both my base and my bonus.

Sometimes being too good of a tech geek is, um, too good. But, on the positive side, I bet you could recite every episode of Star Trek from memory (original series of course) and have engaged in multiple discussions of who is better - Kirk or Picard.
Better yet, I bet you could lead us in a fascinating discussion of the MD5 hash.
