Even unrefined, it's 99% sucrose. Although Ty's wife no doubt has excellent taste, I can't imagine she can detect a 1% difference in sweetness.

As for dissolving, the only thing that seems to dissolve well in iced tea is sweet and lo. Or pure syrup, which seems to be available only in a few fine dining establishments.
You're probably right that it comes down to stirring and dissolving. I'm not a scientist who works in this area. I did read an article in the New Yorker not too long ago about sugar and sugar substitutes. One upshot was that we are remarkably well-tuned to detect levels of sweetness. For example, people don't like a lot of the artificial sweeteners, like Sweet 'n' Low, because they taste too sweet.

I'm curious what did they say about Splenda? I can't decide if I like it or not.

For future reference, it's "mainly" wrong.

Eh. It was Friday and she was complaining about a lack of hostility.

Exactly. That's why the verb after "that" is properly a "was," and no longer an "is."

To RT: Yes, we got all of the china and glassware. Scarcely any of the silver (at those prices, I was not surprised), so we bought the full set on our honeymoon. All of it gets used quite a bit, even though everything has to be handwashed.

Post-coffee, the apostrophe would have been ironic. But I hadn't started drinking yet.

Seems like the stirring thing is it.
You can stir that brown shit into an iced coffee till you have carpal tunnel and it won't get sweet.

I gave up and started using Splenda. Once you get over the initial anal leakage, arrythmias and everything around having a green tint, it's the only way to go.

Translation: While I enjoy the fact that American chefs are willing to experiment with and even embrace sous-vide, a little of that can go a long way.

Really, unless you are heavily into being objectified, it should be "who's." But if the other turns you on . . .

I gave up too. Not sweet, and a granular sludge at the bottom.

wtf, sugar isn't supposed to sludge out and still be crunchy that shit is nasty.

Who the fuck are you to say what sugar is or is not "supposed" to do or be?

I was going more for substance than grammar. And I'm slightly disappointed in myself for making the distinction.

Same. It made me cringe for the rest of the game. I hate Payton Manning.

I forgot about this question of RT's.

I got all the china and all the crystal. 12 place settings. I got 6 place settings of silver. I've never had more than 6 for a sit down dinner, but I do break out the good stuff for dinner parties and special meals.
