Nah, they wouldn't have ascended to Bills status. They would have been properly grouped with the Scottenheimer Browns--not even able to get to the Super Bowl.

I read this story. I felt it was touching without being cloyingly sweet. Why are they so anti-soccer in that town? I found the story about the Liberian child who tuned out the coach to be heart wrenching...his teammate explained to her, he was forced to shoot his best friend so that is how he deals, by tuning things out....
Also, no one mentioned Adam Vinateri? he's money he hardly ever chokes.......Kraft was too cheap to resign him??

I don't know much about soccer, but the whole Fugee team is swarthy, and Coltrane says swarthy soccer players are all horrible cheats. Assuming Coltrane is right, I can certainly understand why the mayor doesn't want to be seen lending an aura of civic recognition to a bunch of cheaters.

Oh, everyone is talking about how shitty Grossman can be. But he only has a real problem if the Bears are behind. All year, he's been fine with a lead, but he loses his mind if the Bears are behind by more than 3--then the only hope is for the defense or special teams to score. If the Colts get out to an early lead, Rex is only likely to make it worse.

Mentioning the Yankees and the biggest choke in sports history does not have the effect on me Boston fans so very much wish it has. I simply don't care that much. Sure, when it happened, it was horrible. Sure I wish we had won. But the history of losing to the same team for generations and generations just isn't there. So, the collapse, while regrettable, simply will never affect me the way mentioning '78, '86 or '03 will a Boston fan.
I don't think you guys should stop doing it though, because it clearly brings you some much-needed sense of satisfaction. But you should know that it doesn't really work very well if you think you're rubbing in some kind of horrible memory. If you want to do that, go with '81 or '95, both of which will always be more painful (at least to me).

2006 Dallas Mavericks.
So I watched the Dallas-Miami game this weekend. I wanted to start being happy and cheering for Dallas again, but the scars are still too fresh.

My munchkin, who was plagued by medical problems from the get-go, had a stroke and died about 3 weeks' ago. It was very unexpected and sad.

See, this is the problem with stereotypes. While it is true that swarthy ethnicities such as those found in Italy, Portugal and Spain tend to be divers and cheaters, the refugees are mostly Africans, who tend to be violent hotheads on the pitch (hi Ironweed!).

I mostly hate the Bears. I watched them (thank you, client development funds) play ( and crush) the Vikings this fall - dirty, dirty, dirty playing! But watching them yesterday - hard to hate when they just do some of it so well.

That'll only last for a day. And then there's this - another day, maybe half a day.
And then it's 2 weeks of hype. I hate the Bears.

They are lock to win this year. Phoenix this, Phoenix that. Dallas is the best team in the league this year, and absolutely built for the playoffs.

Sweet. If we can spend the next two weeks talking about what an asshole Bill Parcells is, I would be happier. This also means that around this time next year, we will see articles about which team is trying to hire parcells, and how he's going to give them the shaft a few years hence. Since winning with the Giants, he's done nothing but screw people over.
