I would not be so quick about assuming anything. You know how the old saying goes: "What happens when you assume? Sometimes your assumptions are based on faulty premises and are proven false." Or something like that.

Was finally being able to post this like scratching a maddening itch that had been getting more intense as the day went on?

Yes. But no one was dirtier than Larry Bird and John Stockton.

I was trying to twist the response into what it wasn't, and see if the speaker'd take then hint and tag along. My New Year's resolution is to never give up hope.

Around that time a friend of mine ran in Daryl Walker (Bullets guard) in an airport. Asked him if Laimbeer was really the dirtiest player. Walker claimed Danny Ainge was. Of course that might be position specific.

Of course any cleveland fan will stick with Mahorn based upon the whole "Mark Price takes accidental elbow to the head from Mahorn" tihng.

Hank, I think your version of the Isiah Thomas interview about Bird is incorrect. While there are a lot of sites out there misquoting Thomas, there many that have what appears to be his exact quote, which is how I remember it.

Look, it's a new year soon... time for resolutions and all that happy horseshit. Consider trying to abandon consumerism as a religion this year. You don't have to make a quantum leap to orthodox Buddhist poverty, but just consider making a move toward being less centered on material for material's sake.

It's ok to dig nice shit. I do. We all do. But you shouldn't talk about it like its a goal. It's fine to say what you like, but discussing what you're getting isn't all that interesting. It's like listening to someone talk to you about his or her dream last night.

The other thing is, posting about what someone gave you isn't substantive. "My boss gave me a necklace, and it was made..." isn't saying anything. So what? It's like writing "I bought a minivan last week" or "I bought a refrigerator yesterday." So what? Where's the compelling narrative there? Where's the punchline? It's not even a request for advice.

It's amazing that you miss the thread that holds these boards together time and time again, namely, that the people here are seeking refuge from the vapid world of people around them who think standing in their office doorway and saying "I bought a Jaguar" is a conversation starter. You can have a conversation about buying shit, and liking expensive shit, but it has to have an interesting hook - some funny observation about the item. Dryly discussing exchanges of cash for high end material is nothing but white noise.

I like the US national team but I hate Eric Wynalda. It's like we're matter and anti-matter.

Right before I woke up this morning, I had a dream that a pregnant woman I had just met (in the dream) got into bed next to me and masturbated. WTF?

I miss Johnny most as well.

When I was a kid, the celtics were Larry Bird and Kevin McHale and then I stopped following them, and the bruins and the redsox.
