Note to self -- if ever lucky enough to meet gwink, ixnay on the back-touching.

In other news, the Not Bobette loaned me the soundtrack to "Dazed and Confused." Rock on, Wayne.

Hmm. There were at least 50 girls hotter than Ashley in that room last night. She is cute, but not particularly hot.

I hope they do have the ceremony when the Yankees are in town. Our guys should have to watch it, so it's burned into their brains. A fitting punishment for a pathetic collapse.

Someone tell me why Nixon and Schilling are so intent on talking shit about ARod? I don't understand it. Don't they understand that they look like idiots criticizing any of our players after they've won exactly one championship in the last 85 years? I know ARod's the new guy, but get a grip.

My lunchbox has their pix on it- which really helps for remembering which is which.

This. Is. Awesome.

A bunch of people were irritated with rush hour traffic along the Katy Freeway here in Houston. To prove how insane the whole concept of sitting in your car for hours at a time in traffic is, they "raced" the freeway for a mile using non-cars: a horse, a rickshaw (passenger was drinking a martini), a Segway, a guy on stilts, a bike messenger, a guy on rollerblades with a buddy on his skate board (for some reason the duo was dressed like Daryl Hall & John Oats), a runner.

Article and link to video here

I love Houston.

The Cannonball Run had its own mission and vision. We hatched the idea over booze, and at subsequent "planning sessions" more booze helped us clarify our plan.

We decided the key was assembling unnatural modes of transport. This experiment needed to be one part science, two parts theater of the absurd.

"How about an ostrich?" one friend suggested. "How about a fan boat?" said another. Over e-mail, we kicked around even more outlandish possibilities. Visions of pogo sticks and hang gliders danced in our heads. We wanted to get riding lawn mowers, Greek chariots and hot air balloons into the mix.
Reality (and sobriety) eventually kicked in, and some options obviously had to be discarded. Where would we find an elephant, camel, yak or rhinoceros -- much less an Iditarod sled?

Could one really do the caterpillar break-dancing move for more than a few dozen feet? And how hard is that on the rib cage?

Sure, being shot out of a cannon sounds great in theory -- but when you take a moment and put pen to paper on the logistics of it, it's not the easiest thing to arrange, especially beside a major interstate. Future scientists hopefully will stand on the shoulders of our research and reach these Dadaist heights. They might also have better luck mocking I-10.

I don't know, but the more exciting news (why did I hold this back), is that I found out that one of my friends (whom I've known for about 2 years and never put two and two together) has a famous rock star cousin. Who also is the avatar of *someone* on this board. I just found this out last night when she was talking about his wedding.

And with that, I think I've snatched the title of Canadian name-dropper of the day away from str8.

I think it's mainly b/c A-Rod's a little bitch.

Almost all non-Yankee fans think this. He's great, no doubt. But he's a little bitch. And that glove-slap move didn't help.

I think it's because he signed the most ridiculous contract in sports history, got himself caught in a Catch-22 (his contract was so huge they couldn't surround him with talent), and then cried until he was traded to the Yankees. He's the greediest of all greedy athletes: he wanted his cash and a ring too.

He's the prime example of what everyone hates about professional athletes.

The ARod talk isn't a big deal up here. I had to go looking for them.

Schilling on ARod:
Quote:
On Alex Rodriguez: "I'm pretty sure that me not liking Alex Rodriguez is not a groundbreaking story. I'm sure there's a lot of guys in the big leagues that don't like each other. The comments came about because of play in the field last year. I never really thought it was nearly as big a deal as people have made it. I'm pretty sure Alex could care less whether I like him or not. I don't need somebody not liking me to motivate me to play. The guy's an MVP."
Wells on ARod:
Quote:
On Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez: "He's a five-tool player. He's one of the best out there. But I remember reading his press conference when he went there. He said a `we' in his conference, like he's won three or four rings with them, and he hasn't. That kind of disturbed me . . . He shouldn't put himself in that category, like he's been there the whole time. He's got to earn it."
Neither one appears inflammatory.

There is a comment on the Boston Dirt Dogs site poking fun at the big uproar in TCOTU Boston Dirt Dogs

Speaking of baseball, I can't wait to boo and heckle all suspected steroid users. This would be a great year to head to Arizona for Spring Training.

Don't give me that "Yankee fans don't think this" load of complete fucking bullshit.

Any team and all their fans would want him on their squad because he is a tremendous talent (notwithstanding that I still think he's a huge fraud in that he seems to be so un-clutch). We got him at a large discount and would have been stupid not to sign him.

The Red Sox went after him harder than the Yankees did. They didn't finish the deal and all I heard was how pissed off they were that they couldn't get it done. (And it wasn't his fault it didn't happen as he was ready to eat part of his salary.)

The slap at the glove thing is the most blown-out-of-proportion play in sports in the last 20 fucking years. I'm glad he did it. Showed me he wanted to win. Good for him. He should have slowed up a bit until Arroyo was in the baseline and then ran right the fuck over him. When Kent Hrbeck illegally pulled whoever-it-was' leg off the bag on a pick off move to first base in the World Series back in '87 and the ump mistakenly called the guy out, no one said shit. ARod's slap was no big deal and didn't even influence the game (except to hurt the Yankees).

I agree that ARod is a greedy, self-centered POS, but who the fuck is Trot Nixon to start shit? And Schilling couldn't be more full of himself, taking way too much credit for an amazing comeback that had more to do with Derek Lowe (kicked to the curb) and Arroyo (and numerous other Sox players) than him.
