It depends. You're telling me that you would fold top pair with the ace kicker most of the time? You'd probably be throwing money away about half the time (depending on the board, of course) I'd have been scared of a straight draw on the flop, and possibly of K-J two pair. It was a bad beat. Most would expect someone drawing to an inside straight to be out after 4th street.

Funny to read people tell someone how he had to play these hands when so much of it is up to the read. I probably wouldn't have stayed in the first hand when I realized I was up against Mr Aggressive for it. I totally would have stayed in hand # 2. If you aren't going to play top pair, with no obvious beat, what are you gonna play?

ETA: hindsight being what it is, though, I would have bet on 4th street of hand #2. were you trying to be cute by checking or were you scared? being cute is a good way to let someone marginal stay in on their draw.

Oh. Was that a drug reference? I so didn't get it, and figured it had something to do with Part II or something. I never would put rp on a drug reference.

Bad beat.

Oh, was it a Kill Bill ref? I didnt catch that movie so no idea. I thought she was just botching the bus thing.

Yearh, RP on drugs. That woudl be the very defnition of a bad trip- She is way too highstrung and anal. It would remind me of those neglected pet parrots who sit in a cage and obsessively pluck all their feathers off.

God, I'm so embarrassed, especially because I also thought "insights not otherwise attainable" was also hip drug lingo.

When I said "rode the bus" I must have been thinking of retarded, er, special needs people. Don't know what could evoke have evoked such an image.

FLOP: K-J-6
TURN: 2
Suits immaterial.

I think you're making yourself look poor here. In the context of the hand and of that game, There's only five better hands he could have had that would beat AK: AA, KK, JJ, KJ or 66. That's it. I didn't think he would raise and raise some more with K-2 suited or K-6 suited. Compare that to the worse hands he could have had: Q-Q, 10-10, 9-9, 8-8, 7-7, 5-5, 4-4, 3-3, K-10, K-9, Q-10, A-Q, A-J, Q-J, A-10, (which he did have), possibly a K-8 suited, or possibly A-6 suited. There was also a strong possibility that he also had A-K.

If you really think that top-pair-top kicker is a bad hand against a loose aggressive player with an unconnected unsuited board, I'd love to play with you sometime.

This is the right analysis. With the enormous pot, I figured any draw was staying in, and I wasn't going anywhere, so I just check-called. But I should have bet - he might have laid it down. I don't think he would have because he was getting good pot odds at that point, and he was a gambler, and also he might raise me with 2 pair or a set or AA . . . but I still should have bet.

Hey, I agree. Hindsight is 20/20. Saying its was "the worst" was just me being an ass. I just wouldn't have stayed in agaisnt a guy who beat me once pretty badly when I'll I'm sitting on is the high pair. Yeah, I play pretty tight, but it all comes back to that fool me once thing.

And what's with the snarky comments? Every single time you've responded to me lately you've been bringin' the hate. Make love, not war.

You made the right play. Sometimes lucky beats good. That's poker.
